I saw this Canadian "loud folk rock" singer-songwriter live a couple weeks back and was impressed. She has an incredible stage presence—hopefully she'll receive wider recognition.

Pet_Sounds - and Mr.Charlie posting Kate Rusby! This is almost like old times! Welcome back to both of you.

Thanks for the recommendation of Skye Wallace, PS. That's a great song, and a stylish video too. She has interesting lyrics and a powerful voice, so I'll def be listening to it again, even though it suddenly cuts off :(

And just like old times, I'm posting something without English lyrics - my favourite track from this 1980 album. The whole album sounds like traditional folk, but actually the sisters wrote most of it themselves:-

( @ Mr.Charlie: I'm kind of ambivalent about The Pogues. They have all the ingredients that I should like and yet for some reason they don't quite do it for me, though I've never worked out why.)

Hey Lisnaholic :). You don't like the Pogues? Is it because of Shane MacGowan's teeth?

Lisnaholic 01-25-2017 06:11 PM

^ Yeah, it may be! I can't listen to any of their songs without seeing his face in my mind!

Where've you been and what brings you back, Mr.C ?

Mr. Charlie 01-25-2017 07:51 PM

I've not been anywhere really. I took a break mainly because coming here had become a habit rather than a conscious decision, and also the weather was warming up and I wanted to work on my garden and start growing some veg. What brought me back? I missed you guys and I missed not hearing as much new music. But don't tell anyone. I have a "no attachments" reputation to uphold! :)

Kate Rusby - Canaan's Land

Ruth Moody - Far And Wide

What a voice.

HaHa! Yes, you're quite a cool one; I think your reputation will stay safe. Have you heard these ladies? You might like them more than me....

^ Lovely. :) Reminds me of The Shires for some reason.

Ane Brun - All My Tears
