Check out Alan Sorrrenti.
While he later moved to pop, his early albums are pretty out there and his singing and voice have a lot in common with Tim Buckley. The album 'Aria' might be a good start. Another roughly comparable singer might be Claudio Milano (Nichelodeon/InSonar etc.)
