This starkly beautiful album is not for the faint-hearted. Uplifting and uncompromising, you have to hear it to believe it.
So, does anyone have an opinion about the various people who have contributed to this album ?
Have you heard anything like it before ?
Do you know any of Huun-Huur-Tu`s other albums ?

This is the only throat singing album I've heard and I absolutely loved it. I've been meaning to check out some other albums by these guys but I've never gotten around to it. It's been a while since I've listened to this, I'll probably play it again tonight.

I know that it's a fantastic album, which is why I selected the excellent option on the poll, but I'm going to give it another listen before I begin to discuss it.

 Well, that makes three of us, as I also need to spend more time with this album. Every time I put it on, it carries me away to a very non-analytical place and I don`t have an idea in my head about what I`ve just heard !

For me it was such a pleasure to hear an album so utterly alien. The combination of the Tuvan throat singing and Bulgarian Women's Choir creates such a unique musical experience. While there was scant information that I could find on the recording, credit apparently goes to Mikhail Alperin. Ukrainian born and currently a professor of music in Norway he formed the Moscow Art Trio while living in Moscow as a traditional folk inspired jazz trio. He wrote or arranged all the songs on Fly, Fly My Sadness. Those he arranged were traditional songs.

I thought the second track Legend was an absolute stand out. Beginning with the amazing bass chant and then the contrast with the women's choir and finally the lone reed (harmonium?). Brilliant.

With tracks ranging from mournful to wonderfully cacophonous I absolutely loved this album and it gets an excellent from me.

Thanks for tracking down some info about the album, stp. I also knew nothing about these guys, fell in love with the sound and was struck by how alien the music sounded. It`s like church music from another galaxy.
The only issue I might raise with you is your choice of stand-out track; I think my vote might go to the last one; the 10-minute Mountain Story.

BTW, I have just aquired this album:-

As the cover suggests, it`s a more modest affair, without the female choir, and the stringed instruments give it a warmer, more down-to-earth feel, but it still sounds quite exceptional.

Alright, Lisnaholic, your comment to me in the recommendation thread has piqued my interest. I just got a hold of this album and am looking forward to giving it a spin. :)

That`s good ! I don`t think you`ll be disappointed, but if you are you`ll end up in some kind of flame war with everyone who has posted here so far !

LOL. Can't be any worse than my wife who told me to "Turn that **** off". Obviously enlightenment is very subjective :).
