Every two weeks the Folk And International Roots Album Club votes for an album that they will listen to and discuss in the coming weeks.
Anyone can vote in this poll, but if you vote, please follow through and be ready to discuss whichever album wins the poll.

On the international side this is a rather peaceful diversion from Armenia featuring the duduk (a traditional reed woodwind). Not particularly ground breaking but a kind of melancholy beauty.

Greenhouse by Leo Kottke (1972)



OK, it`s been around a long time - in fact it`s been around since before New Age and Americana were commonly used terms - but this is still my favourite LK album; seven tracks of sparkling, unadorned accoustic guitar and four vocal tracks

I'll nominate "Neshamah" by Tim Sparks. It's a nice solo acoustic guitar album that explores several different types of traditional Jewish music with some jazzy themes.

The Greenhouse album by Leo Kottke seems to be very difficult to find. If anyone has had better luck and has managed to located it, some help would be very welcome.

Well, you're very welcome Lisnaholic.

I really wish I could say I created it myself, but it's actually a piece called "Merz Construction" by Kurt Schwitters, who is currently my favorite artist and design inspiration. I just love the "found art" aesthetic. Glad it's not an eyesore.

On the contrary, the colours are very attractive. I liked it enough to check out this page, where I was very surprised to see the source of Frownland`s avatar too :-

Is there some kind of conspiracy going on between you guys ?

On topic, I realize that Greenhouse doesn`t sound remotely like New Age music. I was misled by my memory ; it`s just that Greenhouse was one of the albums I used to play repeatedly while I was waiting for New Age to be invented - and what a disappointment that turned out to be !

EDIT : Our poll winner this week is Red Hash by Gary Higgins. There`ll be a discussion thread opening up for this album on July 21, as well as our next poll - so it`d be nice to see some more nominations come in !
