So the stuff outside of the core three albums is worth seeking out, then?

Definitely! The one I mentioned above sounds quite good, too. So does Family Tree.
His two 'tanworth in arden' albums contain a lot of low quality recordings, but the music's still incredible.

Welcome back, s_k ! I thought you had deserted us for good.

Congrats on aquiring "Time Of No Reply".It`s a great album, though inevitably, with a compliation spanning all his productive years, the style of the songs shifts around rather too much.
In terms of song quality, I`d say that the title track and the Pink Moon era songs are as good as any of his other recorded work.
For me, "Made to love Magic" is a little too whimsical, and with the track, "Been Smoking Too Long" the title perhaps gives a clue as to why the song doesn`t work very well.
But most of the other songs are excellent so yes, Chives, this album is well worth getting hold of imo.

I guess with Drake any recording is worth checking out. It's not like he has a ton of them, anyway. I'll look into it.

^ I can`t guarantee that every Nick Drake out-take is a lost gem. Actually, if you want to hear a lost gem that that has a similar mood or feel, you might like to check out this album that stp recommended :-

A very good compilation.

Still have the album after all these years. I was lucky to find one at the local Goodwill in great condition. Possibly my first time listening to his music.
