Imagine if she had really gone in on her in a genuinely sexist way, there wouldn't be enough smelling salts in the world for everyone to come to terms with the situation. The whole event reeks of cheap glamour and media masturbation anyway, plus they'll never top MC Rove's performance.

Btw anyone got any good Chris Christie fat jokes?

Here's one: Chris Christie is fat. How fat is he? Very fat.
You can use that one if you like.

SHS was invited as a guest, sat in full public view without a microphone to defend herself, then insulted to her face for being ugly. To me it's those circumstances that make the joke so cruel, and yes, Michelle Wolf is a comedian, but is that really a carte blanche to say what you like where you like without regard to people's feelings ?
It’s a roast. That’s what roasts are.

My guess is that the other SHS joke was more hurtful. The one that said she looked like a character on tv deliberately presented as being cruel and ugly
She is cruel and ugly

I hope it hurt so bad she kills herself.

As far as Kramer goes honestly I’m a lot more offended by the endless parade of black people who seriously can’t shut up. **** those people talking over his show.

The roasting is one of the most well-known parts of this event. Stephen Colbert famously eviscerated George W. Bush to his face at one of these and Larry Wilmore dropped the N-word while trashing Obama to his face at another. It's sort of a symbolic celebration of free speech in the face of power. It's too bad for Sanders that her boss is such a baby that he wasn't there for the roasting but she chose to take a job which involves her being his proxy. No one is forcing her to stay in that job and it's not like she'd be the first to resign from the position.

^ Secondly, men find it pretty easy to shrug off jokes about their appearance, because they are typically judged by other standards. Also, they don't typically spend time choosing earings, putting on make up to try and look their nicest. Being judged on appearances and not merit is a much more sensitive issue for women.

Yeah, men can be made fun of but leave the poor women alone. They totally don't make fun of each other all the time for their looks. Women every where are perfect and they totally don't judge men based off the way they look. That's totally not the reason why The Rock is shirtless in every movie he's in. No judgement at all.

^ Thanks for explaining the traditions of the Correspondent's Dinner, which I didn't know about. With that context, if SHS was knowingly going to a "roasting" I guess I should dial back my outrage. Wolf's speech was clearly just a part of the modern American way of public life.

^ Yep, I admit it's a big leap from a couple of personal remarks to a racist rant, but Kramer's was the first example I thought of to illustrate that being a comedian isn't quite the blanket excuse that Wolf's being accorded.

^ Well, Blank, I'd say that in some professions looks are of paramount importance, so taking examples from the modelling or movie industries isn't representative of the experience of most of us; from politicians like SHS down to regular non-famous types. But I guess you have a point. Some women have promoted the notion that they should judge and be judged on merit, but there are plenty of others, as you say, who make fun of each others' looks. To quote Donald Trump, "Sad!"

Okay, I don't know if they're trying to be facetious or make a joke here, or if someone ****ed up, but if the latter, it's damn funny! This in my email just now from CNN:
