Your second link is clearly the one we need to understand the "Telescopic Bog" story.
(At one time, "I'm going to the bog." was common, acceptable slang in the UK for "I'm going to the bathroom."
In a similar fashion, "Where's the bog?" was not a particularly unusual question, especially among men or boys. Girls, I think, preferred the more genteel slang, "the loo", which comes from the French L'eau. Did French people ask, "Where's the water?" Probably so, back when these things were new.)
I grew up in an area that was full of cranberry bogs, so the word has very different connotation to me.

If cranberry bogs resemble this in any way, then we are at least on the same page, Janszoon:

I saw these urinals that retract into the ground so they only come out during peak drunken street pee times.

First: is that an actual copy of the Daily Star? Because I knew they were bad, but my god, they used to report some news at least. Now it looks like they're the British equivalent of the Enquirer or the Weekly World News! You sure that's not just a joke front page? God I hope so.

And I'm British...

Yeah, go to the bog is well known here. Mind you, in Ireland we have Peat bogs, which are basically marshes where turf grows, so, you know, could be either.

Can be both here. Also "Bog off!" and the famous BOGOFF (Buy One Get One For Free)!

All right, I have to say it - monkey business!

News Alert: Suspect arrested in case of tamarin monkeys missing from Dallas Zoo, police say

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Dallas and charged in connection with the suspected theft of a pair of emperor tamarin monkeys that were recovered unharmed this week in an abandoned home a day after they vanished from the Dallas Zoo, police said.

Davion Irvin was arrested late Thursday night and charged with six counts of animal cruelty-non-livestock, Dallas Police said in a news release.
