Musician Behind one of the Most Sampled Songs in History Finally Got Paid

Don't know if this is the right place to post but it works. I find it strange and hard to believe that an artist that is as heavily sampled as this article claims has never been paid for they're song. I don't know...

He was paid for the song, just not for all the gazillion times his beat was sampled.

My point was that I find it hard to believe that he's never been compensated by the musicians that sampled his song.

Well, he hasn't. The amen break launched at least one entire electronic music genre (jungle) and he didn't make any money from it.

Nor should he be. You shouldn't be able to copyright a beat. This story is old, btw.

I guarantee they're all back on the streets. Why can't officers use a taser in those cases or aim for the legs?

Most of the time, it's due to the victim being a bigger threat hence shooting them down. I don't even have to read the article and that's obvious.

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, legally, I think people should be free to sample as long as they're using the sample in a way that's markedly different from the source—like chopping up a break and turning it into beat, as in this case. On the other hand, considering how far reaching the sampling of the Amen Break is, you'd think some people would throw the guy a fucking bone. So it's nice to read about the kickstarter thing.

Don't even have to read the article and yet it's obvious to you? :banghead:

Dude, the cop shot the guy, who was about 10 feet away from him, 16 times in about 14 seconds. The first shot dropped him so the next 15 were while the guy was on the ground. 9 of those hit him in the back!!!!

And his only "weapon" was a knife with a 3" blade. He was not threatening or approaching the cops with it when he was shot. The dash-cam video is out there but it's ridiculously disturbing to watch.
