Here, you can have this pearl: I'm done clutching it. No, you won't catch anything! Well, probably not. |
The reason I asked was to pinpoint exactly the level of danger she was pointing to. Because we happen to be in the middle of a discussion on whether there is currently and/or is going to be a genocide in the near future. In case you are unaware, there are people who believe we are already in the beginning stages. So when some one comes in with I'm more scared now then I ever have been, yeah I want them to get a little more specific about what they're afraid of. Cause it could people people on trains headed to camps, or it could be the answer she gave about medical **** etc. I do think there's a drastic difference there and even if it's insensitive it needs to be pointed out.
I think there is a tendency for progressives to always err on the side of the more extreme talking point whenever talking about oppression or discrimination. Because the more extremely you present things, the more "serious" you are taking them. But I think there is definitely a danger in throwing words like genocide loosely. It can unironically lead to civil conflict. |
That's a fair reply. I can understand your opinion there; maybe it was just that the question seemed, to me at least, to be framed in a sort of sneering way? Anyway, I accept your explanation, or clarification, or ****-you, or whatever you want to call it.

US news headlines of the week include these two stories:
This week, a 6-year-old first grader shot his teacher in Virginia with his mother's firearm. He is among the youngest school shooters in US history. This is the 17th shooting involving a student under the age of 10 at a school since 1970. And in other news, Moderna is considering raising the price of its COVID-19 vaccine by over 400 percent—from $26 per dose to between $110 and $130 per dose. Until now, the vaccines have been purchased by the government and offered to Americans for free. But now that the federal government is backing away from distributing the vaccines, their makers are moving to the commercial market—with price adjustments. Moderna CEO said of the 400 percent price hike: "I would think this type of pricing is consistent with the value.” This is why I generally steer clear of the news. |
In other words, if you want to live and be healthy, pay up.
Or we'll send a six-year-old to shoot you. Honestly, in all seriousness, America should be hanging its head in shame right now. The limbo pole could not be on a lower notch and they still manage to get under it. |
We want other things hanging from a pole.

I mean 7 people is a pretty pathetic effort. There are gang members with ****ty aim who kill more than 7 people on accident.

:shycouch: And I had to look up "telescopic bog" to find out what it is. And I'm glad that William Shatner is still above ground. |
So what does "telescopic bog" mean? I tried googling it but I didn’t find anything.

Well researched, Psy-Fi ! Thanks.
Your second link is clearly the one we need to understand the "Telescopic Bog" story. (At one time, "I'm going to the bog." was common, acceptable slang in the UK for "I'm going to the bathroom." In a similar fashion, "Where's the bog?" was not a particularly unusual question, especially among men or boys. Girls, I think, preferred the more genteel slang, "the loo", which comes from the French L'eau. Did French people ask, "Where's the water?" Probably so, back when these things were new.) |

(You may notice that I've edited my post to explain a bit more a bout "the bog" - commonly used in the 60's. Clearly you've been hanging out with politer people than I did ;)) |
