I do think we need to revamp our entire approach to immigration. There are 3 necessary components which must be addressed:

1. Gain more functional control over the US/MEXICO border. I am not sure what the solution here will be. Whether it is a wall/fence, increased deployment of border agents, drones, etc or more likely a combination of all of the above. But I do think it's fair to say that we could do a better job than we are currently doing, given the results.

2. Redefine the criteria by which we accept legal immigrants. Rather than arbitrary factors like whether they have relatives here I feel the criteria for granting access to legal immigration should be based on what the immigrant in question has to offer in terms of skills, age, etc.

3. Path to citizenship for the current illegals on a one time basis. The real reason so many conservatives fear the idea of amnesty is they believe it sets a precedent for new immigrants to come here illegally in hopes of gaining a future amnesty. And it does set that precedent, if left unchecked. So it has to be clear that if amnesty is granted that it is the last time it is ever going to be granted. A one time deal, to recognize our failure in dealing with this problem for so many decades.

Can I have a million dollars?

I say no borders. Easy in. Easy out.

So you don't think conservatives fear amnesty because of its implications for demographic shift? I understand the issue people have with potentially shifting a demographic dominance from one race to another, but you don't think that is the #1 issue conservatives have with Hispanic immigration, illegal or otherwise?

Whatever you want to say about convicts, they don't like pedophiles, and maybe they'd be willing to give someone like this a fatal beatdown in the showers. Or at least they'd make his three years enough hell that it'd be be like twenty years for anyone else.

You know he already spent time inside (not long enough, the ****: should have never let him out) for torturing and killing that little kid? This will be a ****ing walk in the park for the little bastard. Bring back the electric chair. **** that: bring back hanging, drawing and quartering.

He's been in prison several times.

When he was ten years old, he and a school mate kidnapped and tortured a toddler before murdering him.

It is discussed a lot because of the issue of how to punish child murderers and also because this one guy in particular seems to re offend regularly.

He can't be released back into society with his real name and is on his fourth or fifth identity now.

It's a well known case over here.

Has he been in an adult prison? Then send him to an American prison.

It takes the piss.

When they were ten I could see the argument for rehabilitating them but how many chances is this guy going to get?

He is a fucked up individual.

It'll never come back, but he certainly deserves to, I don't know, have the situation explained to him by a large crowd of gentlemen without much hair and very heavy boots on some waste ground somewhere. ****.
