Yeah but while 9/11 caused Americans to be more receptive to policies that were authoritarian it in no way caused Americans to question democracy in favor of authoritarianism. Democracy isn't just a political belief in America, it is a mindless fetish. It being a fetish allows for subverting democracy since Americans don't really understand what they're fetishizing but they do still fetishize it to an extent that makes overt authoritarianism a hard sell. Authoritarianism can't be directly elected or argued for, it needs to be sneakily slided in, and that's where I'm wondering if there's a glass ceiling for fascism that can't be overcome without a massive mitigating factor.

Word on the internet is that factions looking to oust Mexican President Obrador are fucking with the pipelines in an attempt to destabilize the nation and foment an uprising to get him out of power. Obrador is trying to follow the Donald Trump plan and "clean out the swamp" down in Mexico. Obrador is going against the grain and supposedly refuses to be coerced by TPTB into doing their bidding, so he has a huge bullseye on him. Mexico invested in a national pipeline system to deliver gas and oil throughout the country. They don't have a massive railway system or well-kept highway infrstructure to help accomplish this task like the U.S. does, so any holes in the pipeline could spell disaster for the country and its citizens.
