Biblical literalism is to believe that for example the Six Days of Creation happened in 144 hour period. Biblical literalism isn't the same as "If you take the Bible literally and live your life by it." For example if the Bible says "give alms to the poor" and you gave alms to the poor are you not taking the Bible literally and live your life by it? If you follow the "Golden Rule" are you following the Bible literally live your life by it? So why would a person (most likely a Christian) who's sensitive to the plight of the poor and follows the Golden Rule want to throw stone at youths? Doesn't make sense does it?

Following the bible literally implies you are following the whole bible literally and that you believe in complete infallibility and inerrancy of scripture. You can't simply highlight a few portions of the bible that aren't counter-intuitive and make a case for it. That's far from what biblical literalism is.

It's how you portrait Christianity that doesn't make sense. I don't know anyone who throw stones at a fowl mouth youth. I can't speak for all Christians as far as if they follow their faith or not, but my understanding of Christianity is that that isn't what they do, stone foul mouth youths, to bring it up in lieau of all the good the Bible contains is a gross misrepresentation of the Bible.

Yes but you're talking about people that don't follow the Bible literally and cherry pick the bits that they consider useful and valid to modern living. We're talking about taking the Bible literally. Please try a conversation where you're paying attention.

well, people made that book of the old testament to pretty much create a sense of tradition that helped propogate the human species and created a tight knit group of people as a means of survival throughout the ages. the new testament pretty much kicks all of that in the balls and tries to promote celibacy and being like christ i.e. not having any kids and thus destroying the species all together. I love WWJD. If everyone did what jesus did you know what? YOU KNOW WHAT? noone would be around to say wwjd anymore.

More than ever now I am convinced of the absence of a God as Mankind has come to know it.

The Beauty that surrounds me is far too great to have any correlation to the concepts and teachings found in the Bible, Torah and Koran.

I see religion now as superstition, a way to explain the unexplainable and a feeble attempt to control the uncontrollable.

Lennon called God a concept, I'm not sure it gets that much credit.

An excuse seems more befitting now.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.
