Default Jews!

i was wondering this for a while. is Judaism a faith (read: religion) or just a subculture people ascribe to?

i was always instructed growing up that it was strictly a religious choice, but now that i'm growing older i notice more and more people that view themselves as Jewish (in the same way that 'Christians' do) but don't necessarily view it as a spiritual matter. i'm not saying either is right or wrong, but i just don't understand what the definition of "Jewish" is anymore.

It's a religion based on the 1st 5 books of the old testament; The pentateuch AKA The Torah. It's also, by default, a reference to Hebrew ethnicity.

like any religion, it's a subculture also.

people will identify themselves with judaism even if they're not strict about it.
