My father is Jewish but I'm not because my mom is not. He eats pork and is not very obsessive with the religous stuff like not doing anything on Sunday. So its just a point of view.

Captain Caveman is correct. It's both. It's the religion that believe in all that fun stuff, and a race that originates geographically and culturally from what is now Israel.

a lot of jews have no ethnic ties to israel... the majority of jews are ashkenazi and are originate from europe.
