Then stay out of the thread if you don't want to be called out for failed attempts at non funny jokes...

Wearing a cap indoors is considered bad manners by some. At fancy dinner parties there's several types of forks to use, each for a different purpose that would be considered rude to ignore. Both customs are complete bullshit. I certainly think manners are very debatable as far as how practical and applicable they are to modern society.

er, when did I go off-topic, aside from now and the crabby comment?

Exactly. None of it makes any bloody sense. Why do we have to stand for the national anthem? What's the ****ing magic in standing up and listening to it as opposed to sitting down? Why does it matter whether or not I have a hat on while it's playing? At what point does this all boil down to some shit some guy just made up? If people spent a little less time crying about "respect" and "manners" and a little more time questioning things and generally just growing the **** up maybe we wouldn't have to put up with nonsense like this on a daily basis.

i like this.

That's not what I was getting at & you know it. It's pretty obvious I was referring to this instance to the main of the thread of people holding moments of silence and not a bunch of friends at a dinner party making a faux pas with the wrong fork.
This is why I rarely post in this forum, people always trying to pick holes rather than try & use a bit of common sense.

I didn't say you can't question anything.
If you don't want to respect anybody else or show any manners that's entirely up to you. I like to think in my daily life that I do.
I still question things plenty of times but I wouldn't do it to someone when they are paying their respects. there is such a thing as tact.

When 911 happened the minute of silence was not just for the hundreds of people who lost their lives it was for the shock it had on the United States. When this happened to the US my school had to have a moment of silence and no one objected. It's not much to ask. They are not asking you to pray to God or anything, they are just asking for you to be quiet for a little while.

I've had times in my life where I have lost friends, family, and people I didnt even know. This moment of silence is a form of greiving and it really helps you to remember the lost for what they were good for.

Thank you,

CrAbY

Of course they didn't! They'd be castigated for it!

Yeah, I'm not one to blurt something out while someone is paying their respects either, but usually not because I genuinely respect them or care about them, I'm just soundlessly aghast at the utter inanity of their "rituals". :D

Why are they bull****?

The utensil comment is to keep food from mixing. I don't think its "proper."

Secondly, as far as the hat indoors comment goes. I have little use for the idiots who do that sort of thing. I don't think of it as rude at all, I just think the people who wear hats all the time tend to me anti-social, insular, boring people.

And you know what, why the hell wear a hat indoors anyhow?
