Another thing is that it's very difficult to remain free of germs when you're around 30 germy, dirty little children every day! I think I'm going to have to go get it just to be safe!
Well I'd only gotten it because it was mandatory when I was in the Army... we didn't pay... we just went to the medics and got stabbed. Since being out, I haven't gotten a flu shot... so I honestly can't answer your question. I'd never had a flu shot prior to being in the Army.

As far as remaining free of germs, just keep a bottle of hand-sanitizer with you to wash off with, and invest in a can of Lysol to spray your classroom with when school lets out. Anything you can do is better than nothing.

Very good advice, and I shall definitely invest in some! Dang children and their germs.

They have a flu shot nasal spray if you'd prefer that.

I have a terrible immune system and have often been in and out of hospital for various things. I actually DIDN'T get the shot last year and I got swine flu. My parents are medical scientists and I asked them if the shots are worth it and they said yes - they are configured to prevent you from suffering from the most dominant form of influenza strain at that point in time and the success rate is pretty high.

I don't know what to do, whether I should get it or not! There seems to be so many mixed opinions... I also heard that immediately after the shot you can get sick? I don't know if I want to risk this!
Don't. You'll just end up getting the flu if you get the shot. It's happened to me and a lot of people I know.

But if I've had the shots for the last 5 years and never gotten it...?

I've been getting flu shots for as long as I can remember and I've never had that problem. I guess it happens, but I thought the active ingredient in the flu shot was the dead virus, just to make your body think you've already had it?

I've not had a flu shot in years, and I've been perfectly fine. But everybody is different, so good or bad idea - it depends.
