Kinda boring that almost none of all those pointless arguments happening in here are about music anymore.

WWWP 01-30-2019 01:21 PM

Yes please keep the discussion in the vaccine thread about music folks

MicShazam 01-30-2019 01:25 PM

I meant more generally. See it as a reply/joke related to the Elph post above mine.

WWWP 01-30-2019 01:27 PM

I too was making a joke

MicShazam 01-30-2019 01:27 PM

****, I can never tell anymore.
This is getting too subtle for my pea brain.

He's one of the biggest contributors in that area with a vast taste while you literally never participate in it outside of a few hip hop songs every once in a blue moon. Your main stay is on the lounge. You're using this forum wrong and you're understanding OH wrong.

So you admit you have Stockholm Syndrome?

OccultHawk 01-30-2019 02:08 PM

DWV

I know a lot about music

and you don’t.

That’s a significant difference on a music forum.

DwnWthVwls 01-30-2019 02:18 PM

You might know more technical things about music but you really have no idea what I listen to other than the limited amout of what I share. And thats not something i value all that mich when you consistently act out because you can get away with it. Id trade you for any random nice internet person in a heartbeat.

Then stay on Facebook

DwnWthVwls 01-30-2019 02:28 PM

I dont have facebook. Only reason im still here is because i enjoy discussing things in the lounge with certain people along with video games and comics. Im long over using this place for music as there are many other better resources available.

So you don't want to talk about music?

DwnWthVwls 01-30-2019 02:48 PM

I do talk sometimes and i browse the music section but lounge is where i post mostly. I have no interest in writing and realized that i dont have a lot of things to say about music. I just like to listen to it and discovering new sounds. I listen to music for a solid 10-12 hours a day between work, my commute, and gaming time.

MicShazam 01-30-2019 03:00 PM

Fair enough. Even if I do think this forum is a bit heavy on the lounge action, balance wise.

OccultHawk 01-30-2019 03:04 PM

There’s tons to be learned here music wise

MicShazam 01-30-2019 03:08 PM

I don't read the jazz, experimental and ambient related threads, so it feels like things are often a bit quiet in terms of new music posts happening.

Admittedly, to some extent it's just that I'm not interested in a lot of the music conversations that are actually happening.

****, I just realized that I'm really having much the same opinion as DwnWthVwls. I must get around 1% of the music I find from this forum. I can't really relate much to most people in here, musically speaking. In contrast, there are other resources on the web where I find music that I connect with very, very easily. I find more good music spending 15 minutes on allmusic.com than I do in a year on MB

OccultHawk 01-30-2019 03:19 PM

Just one under appreciated poster alone, psy-fi, posts the coolest **** in the what are you listening to thread. He doesn’t have to spell out every detail. I plug his **** into Spotify as a starting point and there’s tons to discover right there. He has astonishingly good taste and is always pointing in a cool direction. And that’s just one poster.

You don’t like good music though.

MicShazam 01-30-2019 03:21 PM

I totally admit to never listening to anything posted by you, Rostasi or Psy-Fi. Nothing personal at all - just not really even close to my ballpark most of the time.

But of course I like good music. Just not the same good music.

Since my definition of good taste is "stuff that suits my tastes", I'm seeing myself as having best taste.

MicShazam 01-30-2019 03:43 PM

The obsession several members on here have with pointing out "good tastes" and "bad tastes" shows clearly how their approach to music is partially not at all about music, but about some sad dick waving b.s., and that is exactly why I don't take the musical opinions of certain members very seriously.

Either you're in it 100% for the love of music, or it's partially a sort of status symbol/identity thing for you to bonk other people over the head with. I'm all about the first category, which is why I never speak ill of people whose tastes don't align with mine. Many posters in here are of the second category and I just think it's silly. Like, what are you guys, 14 years old?

That’s some name butchery right there

Ros is such an obvious example it goes without saying

**** just pulling names off his radio show gets you up to your nuts in great music for a year

I don't take anyone's word on anything when it comes to art. I'll take a look and decide for myself. Anything else is spineless poseurism.

The Batlord 01-30-2019 03:56 PM

Dude if you buy it I buy it

Like I’ve said before the only thing I struggle with is your less aggressive metal stuff

I consider myself a metal head but you got it ten folds on me

Recently Ant has been my go to guy for metal I wouldn’t appreciate without guidance

But you turned me on to exhorder and that time does not heal one and those keep growing more and more to like getting close to being like in a small list of all-time favorites

Those are lifetime friends you introduced me to

Yeah, this place expanded my musical taste in an unspeakable way, but im flying solo now and loving the journey. Also, forums are not the best medium for my learning style nor have I ever seen any educational posts that I found particularly intriguing. If I'm going to learn about music I prefer it to be more scholarly and have sound so I can listen as I hear the explanation. I posted this once already: https://open.spotify.com/user/spotif...S0qC4GhQbu7bKg (I'm about 10 hours deep into this and loving it).

it's because your tastes weren't developed yet, as good tastes are developed tastes, the longer you listen to music the more distilled greatness you should get to

if I ever look back at the end of the year and don't think my tastes became more refined or eclectic I'll be disappointed

but more to the point, it's about ranking posters by their value to the community

If I loved it at 14 I love it now. Growth doesn’t mean abandonment. **** I was around 14 when I bought Sandinista! Even from 8-9 I liked cool ****. If it was fun then it’s fun now.

MicShazam 01-30-2019 04:05 PM

If 14 year old me liked it, then it was perfect for 14 year old me. Different music for different stages of life. I generally care less for aggressive music now, but that doesn't mean that I should consider it in bad taste.

It's just an expression that makes less sense to me now.

I like to give all sorts of things a chance and to come back to things I've dismissed again. My goal is simply to try to see the value in every kind of musical expression - which is why I give time to both your King Crimson's and your Mariah Carey's when I'm trying to expand my horizons. They should be expanded in every single direction.

my hierarchy of mb/mb tastes is established on the belief that being interesting > being nice

i rank music the same way

I like everything I’ve ever liked and I still think it’s all brilliant

I think one thing that makes it hard to follow my tastes like compared to psy-fi for example I praise everything with ridiculous abandon but the reason I’m so non-discriminating is because I love it all so much

Not saying psy fi doesn’t (don’t know) but his discretion keeps you from running down rabbit holes.

On the other hand, I do save certain types of praise for extreme greatness

If you read my **** you know

Doesn’t hurt because I’m among the most aggressive devours of new music on here. Abandoning music isn’t growth it's loss. Growth is adding on which I do with maniacal intensity.
