anarchy reminds me of some kid leaving a bit of grass with dog poo in my desk

Anarchy reminds me of freedom.
I still like the idea, even if it might not work out.

Except that it has. Didn't you see the links I posted? (Which is not to say that it worked out very good, but then again, neither does democrature).

no political system works

the best is just an apolitical philosophy like Zen or something

Dotoar 04-24-2011 08:45 AM

Sidenote: To claim that something 'works' or not, isn't saying much except that it implies an end to wich that something works/doesn't work. It's crucial to describe that very end first, and then identify what must occur in order for it to be fulfilled or not.

total democracy would just end in chaos

total anarchy as well

Yeah, that's the word on the street. What exactly do you mean by democracy resp. anarchy, and which characteristics within each system is it that you refer to as 'total', and in contrast to what?

total democracy as in majority voting but with complete freedom of speech and expression

total anarchy as as in just do what the fuck you like

i believe either would work if somebody who could lead has the final say

NOTHING works with 7,000,000,000 people on the planet. Job one: get rid of 6.5 billion people. Then anarcho out!

That I can agree upon, but then again, I'm not a democrat.

As a sidenote: The choice isn't between democracy and anarchy, not least since the former is a method and the latter is the ideology. Thus, the two can be fully compatible, at least in theory.

That too I can agree upon, but then again, I'm not an anarchist (although your definition has nothing to do with anarchy).

Then we would face a totalitarian society by necessity, and anarchy (as an ideology) would be out of the question, and democracy (as a method) would be redundant.

I recall you claiming that. I also recall me not getting any valid argument for why.

Say, you being an anarchist, what do you think of past anarchies, like the Icelandic system mentioned earlier?
