But you should be more willing to look at things from the perspective of another. When you're home alone and see a rocking chair turn and face you, and then begin to rock back and forth, then let me know how you feel about the subject.

Goofle 12-17-2011 05:25 PM

I would record it.

Rubato 12-17-2011 05:41 PM

I would take a lie down.

blastingas10 12-17-2011 05:46 PM

Exactly the close-minded response I would expect.

Goofle 12-17-2011 05:48 PM

Open brainded?

My point was I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

I would doubt my sanity, because something like that cannot happen due to any kind of supernatural occurrence. :bonkhead:

blastingas10 12-17-2011 06:52 PM

You cannot tell me that what I saw with my own eyes didn't happen when you didn't see it. It's completely naive on your part.

If you're too open-minded, your brain will fall out.

Please watch this video regarding open-mindedness. It's very well-written and narrated in a great accent.

This is the athiest argument I don't understand. We haven't even really figured out what reality is yet, and athiests, people of 'science' mind you, walk around all cockstrong like they know anything about anything. The world we see is just a movie of what is. We don't know the half.
Basically, why can't theists and atheists alike just admit that they don't know the answer to whether or not God exists?

Goofle 12-20-2011 01:08 PM

Erm... God may or may not exist, but I would rather maintain my sanity and assume that there isn't an all knowing super being of which there is zero proof of his existence.

I think if I died and it turned out that god did in fact exist, he would more likely accept me, an atheist, into his kingdom for having the common sense to disbelieve an obvious work of fiction that would more than likely read to him like a a tabloid smear story.

Because agnosticism is boring, if someone has a belief to prove it makes the world a little more interesting.

But I'm the opposite. I have no idea what the universal truths are, or whether or not God exists. But I relieve stress and maintain my sanity by praying. I'm not sure if there is some sentient being that's getting the message, or if I'm just talking to myself. But it's therapeutic for me.

Boring, but why convict yourself to something that you don't know? I think agnosticism is more logical than atheism.

I'm an atheist and I'm more than happy to admit I don't know anything for sure. Nevertheless, based on the available information, I don't think god exists. It doesn't mean I'm incapable of changing my mind on the issue, just that this is the conclusion I find most reasonable based on the evidence.

Really? You think, given all you know, that there is nothing else going on out there is the most logical conclusion?

So you are agnostic but waste time praying. Doesn't make sense to me but I am a soulless bigger.

It's the only logical conclusion.

When did I say there is "nothing else going on out there"? There are probably loads of things going on "out there" that we're unaware of. I don't see how that has anything to do with the specific claim of there being a god though.

How is believing in a god more illogical than not believing?

blastingas10 12-20-2011 02:49 PM

There was a good point made about prayer serving a therapeutic purpose. If it makes someone feel better, then I'd say it's a good thing. Believe in god if you want, be an atheist if you want; one isnt more sane or logical than the other. God hasn't been undeniably disproven, and it hasn't been proven.

I think atheism has become somewhat of a trend. I know a lot of young people who haven't put any thought into this kind of thing, yet they just want to call themselves an atheist because it goes along with their desire to be a rebel and to go against the grain.

Hey Angry. Why the claws?

I'm just saying your thought process (or at least the way your explained it) sounds like it could have been the same used by an Athenian to explain lightning. There can't be logic with things we can't know.

Try reading posts in a more cheerful manner, that tends to help. :)

Being an atheist is a million times more sensible than believing in a God. To have no proof indicates which viewpoint to take, still believing despite that is a sign of insanity itself.

I think you're talking about a Christian God.

Goofle 12-20-2011 03:19 PM

No, just a god. Any of them. Which ever you think exists.

Just so I'm on the same page.

- Thinking there could be something out there is lunacy because I don't have proof.

- And believing there is nothing out there is solidly sane because you don't have proof?

blastingas10 12-20-2011 03:30 PM

You'd have to define your idea of god.

An atheist has no definitive proof that says there isn't a god. You have proven your biased opinion.

Goofle 12-20-2011 03:38 PM

Okay, both of you are dragging down my faith in the human race.

Thinking there may possibly be something out there is fine. I don't believe in a God, but I think it is possible.

Believing in something without any proof is massively insane. Cripplingly destructive.

Religion isn't that deep of a subject. It's pretty cut and dry. Believe or not. God in any shape or form.

Also, I don't have to prove that the lack of proof proves that that I need more proof. Pretty crazy.

Not sure I follow your reasoning there, but let me try to rephrase what I'm saying, maybe that will be more clear:

The existence of a god, at least in the common sense of the term, does not make logical sense to me. I have seen no evidence that supports it and heard no arguments in favor of it that I've found convincing. So that makes me a non-believer.

Not all religions are the same. Buddhists doesn't believe in a creator, yet they believe in rebirth and an after-life.

I guess you haven't realized that by being an atheist, you too believe in something that has yet to be definitively proven.

Goofle 12-20-2011 04:00 PM

Who said all religions are the same? I personally think any religion is illogical.

Rebirth has got to be one of the more crazy religious concepts though. Always makes me chuckle. You would think something such as that would have been proven by now.

Atheism only becomes illogical if there is proof of a god. Until then, there is no more sensible viewpoint.

Goofle 12-20-2011 04:03 PM

Are atheists allowed into the afterlife? Even if they are really nice and make mince pies for tramps and stuff. I hope so.

blastingas10 12-20-2011 04:12 PM

You need to come down to Earth a little, Tom. All religions are illogical? What an arrogant and illogical statement. There are some religions, like Buddhism, that consist of some very deep wisdom. If more people thought like a Buddhist Monk, the world would be a better place.

And there are some pretty intriguing cases that support rebirth.

Goofle 12-20-2011 04:17 PM

Elements of Buddhism are great. Afterlife... Rebirth... **mental sense tingling**

blastingas10 12-20-2011 04:21 PM

There are some very interesting cases of rebirth. Look some up. I used to speak of a past life as a child. I could barely form sentences, yet I was talking about a previous life. Seems kind of strange, considering a child of that age couldn't possibly understand the concept of rebirth.

Goofle 12-20-2011 04:30 PM

Make a movie or something.

blastingas10 12-20-2011 04:32 PM

I've been working on it.

Salami 12-20-2011 04:36 PM
