I hope your house will be fixed via insurance money.
I'm not sure how that works there. It wouldn't be a problem here...

Disbelieving that a quake of that magnitude which i've experienced 3 times in the past without any damage has done this

I am a bit staggered about the damage too.
It's really an incredible mess.
We've had an earthquake of 5.4 here back in 1992.
I believe only a coupe of houses had serious damage.
I can't believe how 'only' 6.3 can do this...
Then I don't know much about earthquakes.
This almost looks like war or third world territory. It's hard to believe that that is actually NZ...

my thoughts are a lot of buildings were structuraly compromised after Semptembers 7.1 quake

That's what my dad figured too.
He also said that the mess of that earthquake hadn't been completely removed yet, so not all buildings you see on the pics are actually down because of this earthquake. Is that true?

97% of this damage is new. buildings that survived the last one unscathed
