I know our Vanilla lives in Christchurch. And Merkaba too? I know Lateralus have friends there .. Are you guys all okay? :(

Guybrush 02-22-2011 02:48 AM

I saw a friend of Vanilla confirm that she's okay on facebook, but appearantly her flat had to be evacuated. It may have gotten demolished in the earthquake. Jessika, my heart goes out to you and I hope you and yours are alright. Let us know how you're doing when you can!

Dirty 02-22-2011 03:22 AM

I couldn't sleep and hopped on the computer and saw the report on Yahoo about 30 minutes after the earthquake. Having never experienced a natural disaster I can only imagine how frightening it would be, especially being the 2nd there in like 6 months or so. I am glad to hear Vanilla is ok! Best wishes to any family and friends of anyone involved.

Scarlett O'Hara 02-22-2011 03:38 AM

Hi guys, I was bused out to the countryside with my flatmates and a family is looking after us. I fell into the liquification and sprained by back but I'm ok. I'm really really upset, shocked, frightened. I was online on mb when the earthquake happened talking to someone on skype and he could see me screaming as my flat fell apart (I had just given him a tour of it on camera). I don't really know what to do but just trying to stay strong. Originally we were in a welfare place with 1000's of people where it was pouring down so we got soaked and muddy.

I am so grateful to be alive, thank you for your support I'll keep in touch. xxxxxx

djchameleon 02-22-2011 03:50 AM

That's great to hear that you are okay

wait a min. I've never gotten a skype tour. I'm jealous.

s_k 02-22-2011 04:05 AM

My goodness Vanilla.
Thank you for posting so quickly!
I didn't know you lived in that area when I clicked this topic so when I kept on reading and was really worried about you.
It's a big relief to get the information from no one but you :).

It's great to hear people are there to help you right now and that you are okay.
Do you have any idea if you can (ever) get back to your appartment?

6.3 is pretty heavy. I once was a couple of miles away from the epicentre of a 5.4 earthquake.
We were fine, but in the city of Roermond, where the quake took place, a lot of houses collapsed.
I don't even want to think about what 6.3 must feel like.

I'm really very glad you're okay. I hope everyone you know is fine too.
Careful with your back, hopefully you'll be able to keep posting here.

You don't have to 'do' anything now.
Just try to get yourself together, try to relax a bit.
They'll tell you what's going to happen next at some point.

Big hug from the other side of the world!

Scarlett O'Hara 02-22-2011 04:34 AM

I can't believe bodies are being dragged out its surreal. I just had the best shower of my life I was covered in mud. I am hopefully going to get on a flight asap to auckland to stay with my parents, I have barely eaten but all is ok. I'll keep you updated xxx

s_k 02-22-2011 04:36 AM

Bodies are being dragged from where? Your appartment?

dankrsta 02-22-2011 04:47 AM

I just read it, terrible news. It's good that you're ok Vanilla. Everything can be rebuild, except for people's lives.

s_k 02-22-2011 04:51 AM

Wise words Dankrsta.
I hope everyone around Lateralus is allright too.
Hope she posts here soon.

Janszoon 02-22-2011 05:40 AM

I'm glad to hear you're okay Vanilla. Stay safe and know that our thoughts are with you. :)

Burning Down 02-22-2011 06:43 AM

So happy that you're okay Vanilla! I can't even imagine what it was like to experience that.

The Fascinating Turnip 02-22-2011 07:02 AM

I hope everyone else mentioned and even those who weren't are fine. What a bloody tragedy, it's like every day something like this happens around the globe :(

Mojo 02-22-2011 10:20 AM

Wow, thats devestating. I can't even imagine. It's good to know that you're ok Vanilla, if a little shaken.

All the best.

Guybrush 02-22-2011 10:33 AM

Thanks for the update, Jessika. It's good to hear you're alive and in good health. Thanks for keeping us updated!

Merkaba, hope you're doing alright too!

someonecompletelyrandom 02-22-2011 11:56 AM

This is just awful. :( But I am happy to hear you are alright Jess. Stay strong. Merkaba - I hope you are okay.

s_k 02-22-2011 12:38 PM

I'm not sure if I know merkaba, but I obviously hope everyone there is okay, so Merkaba too :)

Merkaba is my doom metal buddy. I knew he was in New Zealand but didn't realize he was in Christchurch as well. Take care everyone down there! I know we have several other members from New Zealand, I'm not sure how many are in or around Christchurch, but for any that are my thoughts are with you.

s_k 02-22-2011 12:48 PM

Did some research .
The Car Salesman Dude ;D.
Sorry Merkaba, I'm very bad at remembering nicknames.
I sure hope you're okay :)

FETCHER. 02-22-2011 02:34 PM

I've already posted to you Jess, hope you're alright lass. Chin up. Same to everyone else from there... hope all is well.

More carnage

Yesterday saw Christchurch hit by a mag 6.3 quake. It's all but decimated 65% of the cbd. Unlike September's which hit early morning this struch at lunch time. So far 75 confirmed dead

Paedantic Basterd 02-23-2011 12:39 AM

Jesus, I had no idea this was going on. Not exactly Captain Current Affairs. Had a bit of an OMFG moment when I remembered Vanilla was in NZ, but then I realized I'd just seen her post and I was an idiot. Nevertheless, best wishes and all my support.

Oh man, sorry to hear that! Do you know if insurance will cover any of your property damage?

No out in the suburbs.

Mojo 02-23-2011 04:23 AM

Wow, one or two of those pictures in particular are heart breaking.

s_k 02-23-2011 04:25 AM

I hope your house will be fixed via insurance money.
I'm not sure how that works there. It wouldn't be a problem here...
The pics look awful man. How do you feel?

Disbelieving that a quake of that magnitude which i've experienced 3 times in the past without any damage has done this

s_k 02-23-2011 04:29 AM

I am a bit staggered about the damage too.
It's really an incredible mess.
We've had an earthquake of 5.4 here back in 1992.
I believe only a coupe of houses had serious damage.
I can't believe how 'only' 6.3 can do this...
Then I don't know much about earthquakes.
This almost looks like war or third world territory. It's hard to believe that that is actually NZ...

my thoughts are a lot of buildings were structuraly compromised after Semptembers 7.1 quake

s_k 02-23-2011 04:32 AM

That's what my dad figured too.
He also said that the mess of that earthquake hadn't been completely removed yet, so not all buildings you see on the pics are actually down because of this earthquake. Is that true?

97% of this damage is new. buildings that survived the last one unscathed

s_k 02-23-2011 04:44 AM

Is that your video? As in, did you make this?

s_k 02-23-2011 04:45 AM

Allright. Man it's a mess.
So what do you do now? Can you still live in your house or is it flooded like the pics you showed?
