im with you on this. fighting for peace is like having sex for virginity. it just doesnt make much sense. but if we have to have a military (and hopefully there will come a day when we dont), they should be allowed to openly be whatever orientation they want

Then your qualms aren't about any military. They are about the nature of humanity.

Regardless of motive, there must still exist a force that is capable of defending itself, and those it represents, from others. Since we can't change humanity itself, a military becomes the only other option, unless you fancy the prospect of being completely wiped off the map by someone else. It's rather pointless to be angry at the very nature of our being. You can't change it.

Yes, they definitely are.
But the military consists of people who obey to that nature.
And I'm not sure which part of it is nature and which part is culture.

yeah , you could choose not to fight and just let the aggressive country that wants to take you over just come in and run your country because you are too pussy to fight back.

It's almost like self defense.

Most of the people that join the military don't do it because they are all gun ho and want to fight in defense of our country. Sure they each have their own reasons but sometimes it just boils down to well either I'm heading to jail or I could take this job and get these nice benefits and send home the money to my family for support.
