Took long enough.

I'm trying to pull up Obama's announcement on CNN now. Stinking thing is taking forever.

Paedantic Basterd 05-01-2011 08:54 PM

This just in: NBC News steals Obama's thunder.

He's not even on yet. They said 1030 then 1040 then 1050, so who knows when.

Janszoon 05-01-2011 08:57 PM

I don't like to gloat over anyone's death, even horrible people, but I certainly won't miss this asshole.

I'm pretty sure Trump & Co. is going to want to see his death certificate.

Is this definitely true? Cause when you google "osama bin laden dead" one of the results is a report from 2002.

It's on almost every channel sillynose. From what I've heard on T.V. they've confirmed him dead, and said that he was killed in a mansion outside of Islamabad. They mentioned at one point that it was done by a drone, but I'm not sure. They haven't said it again since, so that could be speculation.

storymilo 05-01-2011 09:24 PM

Alright. I don't have access to a TV right now so I'm just trying to figure things out through the intraweb.

Farfisa 05-01-2011 09:27 PM

10 fucking years, 10 fucking years. I guess this is more of a symbolic victory though, but I guess that's ok.

RVCA 05-01-2011 09:28 PM

10 years, 2 wars, 919,967 deaths, and $1,188,263,000,000 later, we managed to kill one person. America, **** yeah!

also, Faux News nails it once again! http://i.imgur.com/s4fQP.png

Paedantic Basterd 05-01-2011 09:28 PM

Is it bad that I don't really give a ****? I'm sure it would have been really inspiring 10 years ago, but I'm just tired of the conflict.

I hope this leads to a more solidified withdrawal and Quddafi leaving office...

Not bad at all. I feel the same way. I also don't find it totally necessary to be excited about a death, regardless of the person.

Yeah its bad. You should care. There are terrorist attacks world-wide, this will have ramifications on all terrorist cells if they believe they can be tracked down and murdered.

You should care. The guy was inspiring terrorists around the world ffs.

Paedantic Basterd 05-01-2011 09:32 PM

Yeah, 10 years after the fact. This doesn't mean anything to me, because it's far from an end to the war. There is and will still be terrorism. It's something you can't fight a war against and win.

Obviously. Terrorism is not going to vanish just like that.

How so? I completely agree with Pedestrian. I feel nothing. There is nothing to celebrate. My facebook wall would lead you to believe that the most perverse, brilliant criminal mastermind in the world has just been defeated and the world will be free from terrorism for decades come. It's nuts.

Having your hand in the death of thousands and disappearing for ten years would make you a perverse, brillant criminal mastermind. Terrorism will never go away, look at what happened to the Playstation Network last week. :)

Usama is the sort of Americanized version of Usāmah, his real name.

Well I'm not entirely sure how either of you feel nothing? Either you aren't Americans (certainly not New Yorkers) or you weren't conscious for 9/11. If you were 5, I'm sure this doesn't matter that much, but I was in college then, I remember the day everything shut down, the hours and days after where everyone kept asking "when's the next hit coming?" For the weeks of Anthrax attacks and the countless attempts to pull off more attacks.

For all the people this guy killed, senselessly and without any reason other than they were American. Because the U.S. had a base in Saudi Arabia, because he thought God told him to do it. If you don't feel anything, I think you need to search yourself for what matters to you. You both mentioned that "well the war won't end tomorrow." Yeah, that's true. But frankly, this is a reminder of why the war started in the first place.

History blurs, but don't forget we didn't ask for this war. He invited it on us, and frankly today stands as a testament to justice. I just can't understand how anyone looks at this and goes "so what?" The guy is responsible for horrible **** for nothing close to a good reason. Its just mind-boggling.

Paedantic Basterd 05-01-2011 09:40 PM

Fair enough. I don't suppose we know how they found him yet, but I'd like to know if they actually sussed him out, or just happened on him by merry accident.

CanwllCorfe 05-01-2011 09:41 PM

Oh I didn't even look at that. But I imagine it was done in haste. I think every news network makes typos. This one made me laugh:

CHCl3 05-01-2011 09:42 PM

As a New Yorker this is freaking huge for me. The conflict won't stop anytime soon but it still means something to me.
