From memory there is age based wages in Australia.... it was how I got my first job at 15. Retail work. As I got older, the pay rate increased too.

I think 15-24 is too old, 15-18 IMO is a better set up.

I believe over here you get paid less when under 18, which makes sense. 18 is considered an adult so it definitely requires decent pay. But then again paying 15-17 less than minimum for adults for doing the same job is still age discrimination.

I believe this will put a lot more people out of work due to tight arsed employers who would sooner have a younger person working therefore meaning less outgoing in the way of pay

Where I work the pay rates are different for under 18s, but at the same time so are other entitlements. A part time worker over 18 can get a 15 minute break for working between 4 and 5.75 hours, whereas an under 18 will get 30 minutes for the same period. Under 18's don't pay any tax on what they earn either, just national insurance. There may be more (I havent got an employee handbook to hand) but these are two examples that in my mind make the fact that the under 18's get paid less justified despite the fact they are doing the same work.

Come to think of it 90% of 15-17 year olds are more intersted in texting their mates than doing a halfway decent job............I've fired two, one 16 and the other 17 in the last 5 months.

F**k I love my job
