Why is it beautiful? "Occupy Wall Street" is a crass mob movement. I've yet to read one apology for those folks that makes any sense, example:

...I mean, what? Really? Linking the Greek financial crisis to Tunisia? Pretending the USA and Canada don't have massive social safety net programs?

Really, if they want to protest, fine, but the moment they start blocking traffic I do hope the police will do as they did on the Brooklyn bridge and arrest the lot of them.

I could be wrong, but I think he was referring to Jeff Mangum playing 'beautiful' music in a fairly hostile environment, not this protest itself.

Then, please, Buzz, enlighten me. Why should I support this "occupy wall street" movement?

But could we please avoid the rhetorical questions, one line posts, and get into the policy reasons why i should support this movement?

Then you should support this movement. These are people who have been hit extremely hard by the recent economic recession, people who "are forced to choose between groceries and rent, and working long hours for little pay if we're working at all." (Source) If I understand them correctly, they resent the distribution of wealth in the United States, and how the Top 1% controls 42% of all financial wealth.(Source) They are unhappy with Wall Street's power and greed, as well as the eroding of the middle class.

Though the movement, and its goals, are not clearly defined, I think their ultimate goal is to achieve greater financial distribution equality in the United States. We are ranked #93 in the world for income equality (Source), just above Mexico and just below Iran and China-- surely a shocking data point for one of the most developed and prosperous nations in the world.

The bottom line is, if you are not part of the top 1% (those making about 380 grand per year), you should support this movement because it's in your best interest to fight for greater wealth equality in the United States.

Why is it in my interest to have greater wealth equality? Is it in my interest because of a pragmatic economic impact, or because of some moral imperative? Should we only be concerned about wealth equality in a national context, or should the national context merely be the priority?

Please, be lengthy in your answers.

Indeed, the great recession is a bitch, but I fail to see why this means their proposed solutions are correct or even that they've correctly recognized the problem. Really, I've trouble seeing the connection between America's GINI Coefficient (link) and our current economic woes.

Also, unless I'm missing something, the $300k figure deals with household income. For a single person the figure would be $150k.

You're trying to be overly convoluted. It's in your best interest because it will increase your standard of living. Period. No need to be lengthy.
