Ron Paul is smarter, has better ideas, and more stringent common sense than the rest of the 2012 presidential candidates combined. And that includes the incumbent Obama.

A real libertarian isn't dogmatic at all like those caricatures suggest. People involved in the Libertarian Party are a different matter entirely.

Like most things, Libertarianism has its place in politics. It's just the people that take it too far or interpret it to mean the government is a big ol' bully that shouldn't do anything it wasn't doing in the 19th century that damage its credibility. I wouldn't consider people like Ron Paul libertarians, I'd consider them idiots.

I gotta ask...Do you actually know his politics or are you just as misinformed as the American public? 'cause if memory serves me correct you're British, no? Normally it wouldn't matter but this is American politics are not a typical void of discourse.

There is a fundamental divergence between the British and American vision of civil liberties. In Britain, everybody is expected to be able to eat, sleep, and have sex. In America, we only get to eat and sleep. Sex is considered something that you need to earn, and this is where people jump down opposite ends of the rabbit hole.

It's not like libertarians want anything extra for themselves (which is why there's such a huge gap of perception and a certain stigma of greed between Socialism and libertarianism), it's that they believe the application to meeting those needs should be individually driven, rather than rule-governed.

I wouldn't expect you to understand American fundamentalists. The TRUE libertarian party would be something like the political schema of Alexander Hamilton, not Bob Barr. The way Ron Paul explains legalization of all recreational drugs is as common sense as possible:

If heroin was legalized tomorrow, would you go out and do it? No? Why then would you not legalize it, and just tax the shit out of it? Who actually cares about the tax besides NON-PARTICIPATORY junkies?

The fact remains that the people looking to seek these drugs will ALWAYS find a way to do so (it's why they're addicts!), no matter whether it is LAWFUL or not to do so. Why then should we have a SOFT law in place to catch non-violent criminals ?

I don't mean to be preachy but I grew up entrenched in the tenets of socialism. I found out early, it doesn't even work on a micro scale. There's always a fucking mooch in your group of friends, and you know it. He might not, but you definitely do.

Think. For. Your. Self.

He stole that from Zappa!

On a side note, I can't honestly take Ron Paul seriously after his yelling outside the builderberg thing. Makes him look too much like an unproffesional lunatic, and kind of pathetic for not being invited. (even though I don't personally stand for the idea of a super secret meeting).

On Zappa:
Frank Zappa was one of the few people I felt actually 'got it'. In him there was a guy who wasn't a habitual drug user but supported the rights of others to do what they wanted to do to themselves, and an advocate for lifelong education. I'm kinda pissed he never made the personal foray into politics himself, he would have definitely salvaged America from the grips of Reaganomics.

On libertarianism:
F. ex. the abortion issue is pretty divisive in itself; this kind of thinking pretty much takes a step back from the question: does the government have a right to interfere with your personal decisions? I am a staunch supporter of Roe v. Wade but I sure as fuck am not going to condone anyone in my family/friends/ex-gifs getting one. Might seem like a paradox, but I assure you it's not.

Why? Because I see it as a response to an evolutionary aberration. But my decision to support LIFE should NOT be reflected upon others, or whatever desire they have to maim themselves.

On Ron Paul:
The guy is certain to have a few duds in the tank for every warhead. That's why we have a President and not an autocrat. Villainizing the man for being misguided at times doesn't invalidate the rest of him, does it?

I should remind you Frank Zappa often remarked that tobacco was his favorite vegetable. And I'm 99% certain his shit was serious as cancer.

I was just being playful with the Zappa mention. As for libertarianism, I've never feared the government(excluding the military, and it's recruiting tactics) I fear the businesses that buy out chunks of the government much more.

Ah.

But in libertarianism, you can use your voice louder without fear of retribution from authoritarian figures. So those same companies DON'T have the leverage to exert on individuals from police, the military, etc.

Tax dollars make the government pay attention. Without a federal income tax there's no foot they can use to shove up your ass. Who would buy the shoe?

Without Federal Income Tax they would have never been able to bust the mafia or the KKK. Fact of the matter is, the government has to be there to protect you from certain groups. Beyond that, it does in fact need money to function, and where else is it going to get it?

It may be failing to protect us from big business, then again, there's no lead in our alphabet soup.

I'm not very authoritarian, and I know how ****ed up crooked the government can be. But, I get tired of this sort of "It's us little guys vs the government" philosophy. the US Government can't even manage itself, let alone screw you over.
