Jamie foxx says "black people are the most talented people in the world".

Jamie Foxx: ‘Black People Are The Most Talented People In The World’ | Radar Online

While he may have a point, 'cause don't get me wrong, some of my favorite music is made by black people, I think it was a little racist. I think there has become a double standard when it comes to this kind of thing. If a white actor came out and said white people are the most talented, he would be shunned, he would be called racist and his career would probably suffer. I will probably be considered racist for voicing this opinion.

What do you think?

I guess he can think what he wants but thats a fairly general statement. And it certainly is a double standard as al sharpton/jessie jackson would lose their **** if a white man said it.

Arya Stark 02-12-2013 01:02 PM

I mean, if you read the article, what he's saying is explained perfectly.
Making it about race for a black person is nothing because for black people and people of color, it's always been about race. Everything is always about race.
The first "Puerto Rican" _______ the first "black" president. It's always about race for those who aren't white so for him to bring up race isn't really to be racist (which isn't really possible in this case).
Also, I'm sure he knows not every black person is the most talented in the world. He's an intelligent person, I really don't think he thinks that simply.

Thats why i commented it was a general statement. I was more commenting about the fact that NAACP would have a field day with a statement like this made by a white actor. Hell look at John Mayer. LOL

I think you are just jealous that you don't have two old guys to represent and speak FOR YOUR WHOLE RACE!

No, there isn't a double standard. Jamie Foxx is already on people's list of being a racist since he did the SNL opening monologue "How black is that?"

I was certainly being tongue in cheek. I understand that the interview was also probably segued with a question. Whats Jamie gonna think, hes black so hes gonna run with it of course. And I generally couldn;t care less about what some movie star thinks about people they don't live in the real world anyway.

PoorOldPo 02-12-2013 01:19 PM

It is racist, and if you are going to call me a racist for saying that it is racist well then I guess I am racist too. I liked him in Django Unchained but I have lost respect for him for saying this.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-12-2013 01:23 PM

I'd like to see the context he said it in before I pass judgement.

djchameleon 02-12-2013 01:26 PM

Lol I was being sarcastic but they get so much eye roll action from me when they come out of the woodworks to speak against things that are soo "offensive".

The same double standard argument has come up with Jamie before though. If you think he's racist blastingas then stop supporting him. You won't be watching the next spiderman movie either

blastingas10 02-12-2013 01:29 PM

Way to take a stand, po

I don't really understand some of the previous comments. Black people can't be racist? Is that what you're trying to say?

I don't think he's racist, I'm not making that assumption. I'm just saying that the statement itself was a little racist. My main point was that if a white man said that about white people, al sharpton and Jessie Jackson would lose their ****, as mentioned above. It would cause a big stir about racism.

Another example is a couple years ago, espn was flooded by stories about there not being enough black coaches in the NBA and NFL. That's fine, I don't have a problem with that discussion. On the other hand, nobody says anything about the lack of white players, primarily in the NBA. If someone did, it would cause controversy and this person would be labeled a racist.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-12-2013 01:30 PM

Having seen the context he said it in I don't think he's a racist I just think he's very very pretentious.

Arya Stark 02-12-2013 01:30 PM

Yeah I was just making a statement, I wasn't really disagreeing with you directly. But I do think there's a difference. I think that People of color can do it because they're people of color.

This.

blastingas10 02-12-2013 01:36 PM

Well I think that's bull****. Black people can be every bit as racist as white people, I have black people who will attest to that.

Key 02-12-2013 01:37 PM

Being racist against black people is a crime, and crime is for black people.

Arya Stark 02-12-2013 01:37 PM

Okay we can disagree on that but it wasn't racism.
He wasn't saying **** ALL YOU WHITE PEOPLE AND LATINOS BLACK PEOPLE ARE BETTER YOU ****ERS.
He was just kind of... I don't know delusional about black people and their talents.

Oh I knew you were. I don't even take offense to his comments hes entitled to them. And i'll be checking out the new Spiderman for sure. Hes too talented an actor to just boycott.

blastingas10 02-12-2013 02:05 PM

He can be racist all he wants, that's fine. I just think to double standard is a bunch of ****. I'm not convinced there isn't one.

Yes context is great. In many aspects of life(architectural context is something that many people seem to ignore in my experience), but ehhh, I don't think too much context is needed here. He just flat out said it. I would still like to see the context but this is a pretty blatant statement here. If Leonardo DiCaprio said this about white people, or....I dunno, Michael Fassbender, they would be ****ed.

Yeah **** that. I don;t like pretention, and I don't like racism, and this was racism. It is racist to actually ignore the racism in the statement. Weirdly enough.

Lol, never said he was saying that. What he was saying is something more level headed, and thus something that he actually believes and isn't just a mad rant. Its as bad as a white person saying that white people invented everything great.

So a delusional white racist can't be excused? Because it is pretty clear that they are delusional.

Exactly, but the fact that he( a celebrity, not some lunatic racist ) is making these statements to the public, he is alienating his "white" fans to a certain degree and encouraging racism in his "black" fans to a certain extent

Franco Pepe Kalle 02-12-2013 02:14 PM

It all depends on what you are talking about. White got talent in some fields than whites. Pratically on music. Here is how I see it. I think white people are the best with pop music, rock music or even country music. I think black people tend to be better with rap, R&B, blues, and soul music. That is my response to Jaime Foxx's statement.

I agree with you though that there are indeed black people that are racist.

As far as Jamie Foxx is considered, I don't really think he is though. If he said black people are the only talented people in the world and white people should stop trying then yeah I'd call him racist.

I will point this out, there are very few black rock musicians, very few black country musicians, very few white rappers, and very few white R&B singers. Just think about that.

Arya Stark 02-12-2013 02:29 PM

It's not because black people are better at certain things, it's because that's what the culture is at the moment. It is definitely changing. Look at Eminem and Killswitch Engage.

Dude, there are not many white rappers. That is a fact. Despite the success of Enimen, there are not many white rappers even now. Very few. Also, how many black people in country music. Other than Cowboy Troy (who is deeply talented) and other black guy, there is not other black country artists. That is a reality.

Arya Stark 02-12-2013 02:32 PM

That doesn't mean one race is better than the other. I just explained it.
You're as delusional as Jamie Foxx.

I wasn't pulling that card, just stating that i have personally talked to black people who have told me that they think blacks are just as racist as whites these days.
