Default CISPA - Cyber Intelligence Sharing & Protection Act

the article below was posted April 12, 2013 @11:49 AM.

"TechNet, the trade association that represents dozens of prominent technology companies, including Google, Apple and Facebook, has come out in support of the controversial Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) in a formal letter to the U.S. House of Representatives this week."

i haven't looked into this too much yet, but it seems pretty shady, given the timing and all.

link: CISPA 2013: Google, Apple Top Massive List Of Supporters Favoring The Controversial Cybersecurity Bill

and here's the co-founder of reddit in a video he posted on the 10th trying to get people to sign a petition to stop it.

i don't really have a discussion topic, but i came across this and thought it probably deserves a thread.

I really hope the petition works. Does this affect American's only or everyone everywhere?

Based on the article in this thread. It already passed 18 to 2 in a closed door vote.

As far as who it affects, it is more targeted towards domestic security whereas Sopa and Pipa were more international.

Here is a site that will catch you up to speed on the details

it sounds to me as though any country that has facebook and microsoft operating within its borders could be subject to the handing over of info to the US government on their citizenry.

Personally, and I am not exactly pro government mind you, It seems that the only people that should be worried about this, or afraid are people that have something to hide?

if "private" and "hidden" are synonymous, sure.

No, it's smaller companies that don't have local data centers overseas that are more subject to have their data handed over to the US govt. Facebook and microsoft that do have data centers abroad. It won't affect those data centers just the ones located in the US.
