You can whine about it.

That's all pretty much.

Xurtio 10-10-2016 05:57 AM

You can join their ranks... after all, it's made up of citizens.

Justthefacts 10-10-2016 06:05 AM

Throughout the years revolutions have come and gone and stirred up the establishment but ultimately it does whatever the fuck it wants and doesn't care two dicks if you're in its way. I've just learned to take it as it comes. Makes no difference to me because I have a great job that pays well so God bless America.

Not in the least...... They all act to suit thier OWN AGENDA,no matter what it may be @ the time!!

I'm anti-establishment. Although I do have to say; I find it incredibly ironic, and hilarious when everyone in my state (California) has this anti-capitalism, anti-corporate mindset, and expects the government to be less corrupt. That's like realizing that plastic isn't drinkable, so you try to drink rubber instead.

Goofle 03-09-2017 07:48 AM

Why should the government do anything for anyone?

What, exactly, is the point of the government if not to serve its people? Defense, healthcare, infrastructure, regulation, food/drug safety...if you support even one of those things, that is the government doing it for the people. There are just vastly different ideas about how to go about enforcing those things.

I support government with intensive checks and balances. We would never move beyond a tribal society if people were left to their own devices. That's not to say that there aren't a lot of good people out there who are self-motivated and want to see the human race advance. Hell, for myself I know I would still live by the golden rule even if there were no laws. The laws are for the people who decide to be selfish pricks and ruin it for everyone else.

I think there are 2 things "small government" folks don't understand. First, what I just mentioned above. If there is a loophole, someone WILL take it. I do regulatory work and trust me...there is always some bad actor trying to get through my agency by playing a semantics game with the regulations. Even when we have SIGNIFICANT safety concerns. The government is there to protect the public from those kinds of people. Second, "small government" people are not actually for small government and I think deep down they realize this. You can't run a modern society without laws. They just think different aspects of the public's lives should be regulated.

djchameleon 03-09-2017 10:16 AM

People that believe in small government are only interested in it when it's to their advantage but when they are sucking off the teethe of the government it's perfectly fine.

Aka corporate welfare being okay but personal welfare **** those poor people they need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

and I'm sleeping in a mansion with my comrades

So what makes you think you're so special you deserve the mansion? There are not enough mansions to accommodate every single poor person, working class person, etc etc. Once you're in that mansion then you become the "elite" that the people on the outside hate. You become the new bourgeois, and they're be poor people planning to overthrow you.

MicShazam 04-19-2018 04:18 AM

I'm pro gov when it works, anti when it doesn't. I believe it necessarily has to be complicated as no simple solutions would work. I would never be an anarchist since I don't see how it serves civilization to revert to jungle law. Leave that to the monkeys.

Very good point. He would become the thing he hated, the hunter becoming the hunted, the punk becoming the punked.

Yeah, pretty much. It's an oversimplification for sure. You can govern a nation in a million ways, so it's not just a question of "how much". I feel like people are a bit too willing to reduce everything down to a binary. Not on this forum - just in general when you see people talk about politics, ethics or morals.

If the government is not going to serve my interests, than I'd rather there be less of it. Just sayin...

Whenever I say people need to be more accountable for themselves I get looked down on.. but you can say it about the establishment and it's okay. This seems unfair.

If everyone was accountable and held others accountable we'd hardly need a government. :D
