Sorry, I don't follow any of that stuff. I think Paul got the right idea though.

LoathsomePete 02-26-2015 09:21 PM

Aww and I was all ready to talk about how Panopticon is a beautiful blend of atmospheric sludge metal and post-rock :(

And I was all ready to talk about my favorite Egyptian goddess.

Chula Vista 02-26-2015 09:36 PM

Red or blue Slurpee is the key question.

Psy-Fi 02-26-2015 09:54 PM

One of the lowest ratings I've ever seen at IMDb...

Isis Rising: Curse of the Lady Mummy (2013) - IMDb

Nice to see some discussion on Isis. Oceanic and Panopticon are great albums .

John Wilkes Booth 02-27-2015 06:41 PM

these guys are serious gangsters

Chula Vista 02-27-2015 07:02 PM

Will someone answer the damn Slurpee question?

DwnWthVwls 02-27-2015 07:51 PM

What exactly were you hoping to pull from this discussion JWB? Not much to talk about when everyone is on the same side.

John Wilkes Booth 02-27-2015 08:19 PM

there are a number of angles you could take at a topic like this, not sure why you think there's nothing to discuss just because nobody here supports IS, lol.

how about the geopolitical implications? the rise of the islamic state gives the united states and iran a common enemy, whereas previously our politicians were frothing at the mouth to go to war with iran. **** it though im not gonna sit here and rant to prove a point if you guys don't give a ****, lol. i'm just gonna keep dumping isis related material in this thread. anyone who wants to look at it can do so.

Of post-metal? I guess I could see it spreading to many different cultures now that you mention it.

John Wilkes Booth 02-27-2015 08:58 PM

you can do better.

if you don't care then don't care... i can't knock that. but stop acting like there's some sort of principle to not caring.

the **** is going to go on with or without you paying attention it honestly makes no difference

I used to keep up on ISIL activities, but after fox news broadcast that video like some sort of gruesome entertainment I stopped giving them any attention. I follow the Peshmerga and the PKK on their exploits, but that's more so because I find the PKK interesting to read about than reading about who ISIL is fighting against and why. They aren't barbaric hooligans who want the world's attention, they pretty much fight to preserve their language and culture in places like Turkey where they have been long persecuted.

Just keep this in mind, that part of the world is really ****ed up. You can be home with your family in a small village where supposed terrorists may be located, and in one moment your family could be dead because of an air strike to eliminate a threat. Civilians have become casualties of war for as long as war has existed, but the fact that unrest has plagued that area for so long, that's all some people in that area know. Hatred, revenge, and ignorance are very powerful, and they can turn you into something with no empathy or forgiveness. If any of you grew up in that area, you might be the one chopping off Assad regime heads, or laying waste to US backed governments.

I'm trying to keep my post as neutral as possible, I'm not one for politics, but from the information I've come across I've tried to see it from a different perspective.

You should make a timeline of events and articles.

BBC News - Iraq: The minorities of Nineveh

UNHCR - Middle East and North Africa
Quote:

The humanitarian situation in Syria remains extremely challenging. In the fourth year of the conflict, there are more than 3 million Syrian refugees in the region. In addition, over 50,000 Syrians have sought asylum in more than 90 countries outside the region. Inside Syria, an estimated 10.8 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, including some 6.5 million internally displaced people (IDPs).

Oh man, definitely! Yesterday is totally lame.

DwnWthVwls 02-27-2015 11:06 PM

No it just that most of the discussion about this kind of stuff happens when people disagree about a topic. Look at the threads where everyone agrees, most of them are short lived.

Who said I don't care and am not paying attention? You know better.

If there's an event that happens (like Paris) I'll discuss it.

But I'm not gonna waste any time bantering about an insane ideology in an of itself.

John Wilkes Booth 02-28-2015 03:09 AM

an actual event? lol. what happened in paris was nothing next to what is happening in iraq and syria on a daily basis.

Cuthbert 02-28-2015 04:41 PM

Thread is juicy. Did they not throw another gay man off a roof and stone him?

Grind them into the fucking dirt.

The lol isn't the only thing that makes that world view offensive to me. In fact, I endorse the lol if it means you were joking. Do you honestly not give a **** about anything that's happening in Africa or The Middle East?

Xurtio 02-28-2015 05:26 PM

I have been keeping up on ISIS and reading about the history of the middle east a bit. I saw the egyptian beheading.... that was disturbing. But I don't really have much to say off the top of my head. Any primer questions?

I said I don't feel like talking about it here on MB, not that I didn't give a sh*t.

Come on man, read the words.

If I allowed my brain to process all of the bad stuff going on in the world and in my own backyard I'd go f*cking batsh*t crazy and want to put a bullet in my head.

simplephysics 02-28-2015 05:50 PM

One of the American aid workers that's been executed on camera went to high school with my boyfriend, and his parents attend the same church as my own. Apparently they (his parents) knew for about a year before it made headlines, but were told to keep quiet essentially, only finding out through a message one of the released captives managed to deliver. That's gotta be an awful feeling, knowing what's going on but at the same time not knowing anything.
