No, color doesn't (shouldn't) come into play at all. But when you murder a police officer, you are destroying the system, which is designed to preserve the system. You can say it however you want to, but the system is always designed to preserve the system. And thusly, shooting a police officer has a higher penalty. Roxy is right though, cops stick together. She's wrong in one sense though, lawyers do not. They are blood thirsty, cut throat, law quoting vampires.

Which is why I'm surprised that daddy-o hasn't been charged with a lesser form. Knowingly giving a handgun to someone who is a "little off" could be considered a criminal act. And if you, as his parent, couldn't have figured out he was a "little off" then you need to wake the f*ck up.

I've been part of a probative very probative police investigation, where I've been watched and followed and just when they knew my weak points bang, pull me in with a tape recorder, halfway through they turned the tape back on after me saying listen this fool is gonna kill me.... Nah cops are worse then lawyers.
