you asking me for the secret ingredients to jwb posts or what, pal?

people keep saying to me i'm trying to be edgy

tbh im not really sure what that word means

i tried google and this is what i get

Quote:
edg·y
ˈejē/Submit
adjective
1.
tense, nervous, or irritable.
"he became edgy and defensive"
synonyms: tense, nervous, on edge, anxious, apprehensive, uneasy, unsettled; More
2.
informal
at the forefront of a trend; experimental or avant-garde.
so you tell me

am i trying to start a trend by making this kind of thread? not really. basically what happens is... i think of something... then i consider posting it... then i say to myself
you know you're going to have to argue with people as to whether or not this should be a thread/whether its edgy/etc for the first couple of posts... it's like a ritual at this point i have to clear the fields to plant some seeds. so then i do and then eventually people start posting in the thread for real, sometimes to discuss the topic or a digression that branched off it, sometimes just to rate it, cause i dunno gives them a temporary position of power? who knows

i always interpreted "trying to be edgy" as i'm trying to offend.. and for this thread i'd have to ask how people see this as an attempt to offend.

i mean i'll be honest and say in other threads i have used inflammatory buzzwords just for the sheer sake of it... but i usually make it so over the top that it seems like people should be able to recognize that for what it is.

but in this thread i thought i gave a pretty fair and non-inflammatory intro, and then so it wasn't all serious put some lighthearted flag humor at the end. so if you really consider that edgy then i dunno.. we just don't belong on the same planet/forum

Holy **** you put a lot of effort into that response for an offhand comment.

Those definitions dont do common usage (ime) justice
I don't think edgy is synonyms with offensive. It probably has a lot of overlap, but the main thing is that you do things considered socially unacceptable because you want to convey an image that you don't give a **** what anyone thinks. (Not you personally, you the plural).

He wears it quite well though, don't you think?

it sounded like a question to me... i tried my best to answer it clearly... it's not like it's the first time its come up and frankly i'd rather be talking about the issue the thread was about too but you (the collective you, not you personally) seem that you would rather discuss my edginess, hence i tried to address it

as for your definition... i would say that seems to sum up how some people see me, based on their comments.. i try to combat that image to some extent by compromising or clarifying here and there

because clearly i care what people think. i never claimed not to.

example: when i said ***got and people freaked out... i compromised by agreeing not to use that word anymore (except in reference to the word itself). even though i honestly don't see much wrong with using it in the way i used it. and most of the people i know irl see it more the way i see it than the way you guys see it. but i compromised to appease people anyway. if what i wanted to do was offend you guys then i would just keep saying that word and try to act as homophobic as possible.

instead i say things that i would think are so clearly over the top and silly that you should know i am not being serious about it... like jews/illuminati/change the country's flag to the confed battle flag/whatever... cause that's my humor.

you might say "we dont like your humor"

alright you don't like my humor

that doesn't mean i'm trying to offend you. like i said i thought this thread was pretty tame

I didn't actually foresee investing any time in it at all. And I wasn't criticizing your humor, I was just making an offhand comment that loosely matched a character trait - I didn't think it was so damning or that it made you a bad person. You could have safely ignored it or shot back an equally offhand comment to reduce derailment load, for future reference.
