Kentucky Clerk denies S.S. Licenses

"Under the authority of God".

What should they do?

1. Hold her in contempt with the threat of jail time if she doesn't comply?

2. Fine her and hold her in contempt?

3. Burn her on the courthouse steps using gasoline soaked rainbow flags?

4. Other - please explain.

Frownland 09-01-2015 10:03 AM

Fire her.

Lawsuit and the slippery slope would be off to the races. She'd contend she was fired for her religious beliefs. She'd have high profile Christian lawyers knocking on her door to work pro bono and she'd gain huge ground support from those who agree with her.

Frownland 09-01-2015 10:16 AM

Tell her to go **** herself when you fire her. Surely the Bible is cool with that.

DwnWthVwls 09-01-2015 10:25 AM

Fired for poor customer service, or just for not doing her fucking job.

Chula Vista 09-01-2015 10:38 AM

Not sure an appointed or elected county clerk can just be fired like say an employee at Target.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out because it will set a precedence for the rest of the country.

She's sure getting her 15 minutes of fame. The story is all over the news.

Exo 09-01-2015 10:43 AM

Contempt of Court.

She should just be ordered to shut her face and uphold the marriage like everybody else. There's no difference between this and telling a bunch of black people they can't come to your Applebee's because of you beliefs. It's against the law and if she wants to keep her job she should just keep her opinions to her facebook feed.

Frownland 09-01-2015 10:48 AM

Freedom from religion is just as important as freedom of religion. I'm quite sure that we can fire her for not doing her job, if anything.

Ms. Davis told the Supreme Court that her Apostolic Christian faith forbade her to affix her name to a document endorsing the view that the marriages of gay men and lesbians were authentic.
Oh good, a nut bar. ****ers make your garden variety Evangelicals look like lapsed Catholics.

We don't let Rastafarians smoke weed, we don't let whoever sacrifices chickens for their evil deities do that, we don't allow human sacrifice, we don't allow the Inquisition to stick hot pokers in heretics' orifices, we don't let etc, etc, etc. Freedom of religion is not absolute when it conflicts with the law, and this is most definitely conflicting with the law (especially since she's actively preventing a law from being carried out).

****ing fire the dumb bitch.

A fellow Kentucky clerk, Casey Davis, who has protested alongside Ms. Davis, insisted Tuesday that “we’ve not tried to prevent,” same-sex marriages, “we’ve only tried to exercise our First Amendment rights.”

Mr. Davis said same-sex couples could go to another county to get married when a county clerk objects due to religious beliefs. “There was a lot of people that died for that right and I think we should be able to exercise it."
Good lord. What the flying **** does this have to do with freedom of speech?

Frownland 09-01-2015 11:02 AM

Kinda surprised she didn't work the second amendment in there somewhere.

Chula Vista 09-01-2015 11:04 AM

Should I start a poll as to which of the GOP candidates is first to jump on board in support of Ms. Davis?

Gotta be Mike Huckabee.

Exo 09-01-2015 12:44 PM

That logic is like The Batlord claiming he's exercising his first amendment right not to serve me french fries even though they're on the f*cking menu.

I just make the sandwiches. I have nothing to do with the fries or the customers. Try again.

Exo 09-01-2015 12:51 PM

Seriously, how many Jalapenos you puttin' on those new sandwiches. The commercials make it look like my assh*le is going to need a vacation.

Frownland 09-01-2015 12:52 PM

7.38.

Here's a win win. Talk to your management and tell them you should use less mayo on the chicken sammys. BK wins becasue you incrementally cut down on costs. The customers win because too much of that nasty ass **** is gross.

Used in small doses it's just enough and tastes good but if you find yourself having to lick the mayo drippings off of your wrists after only a few bites it's nasty as hell.

I think he just sticks it in the microwave.

Trollheart 09-01-2015 01:42 PM

Basically, as we all know, this is bull****. She works for the county (I assume) and they make the laws, not her. This is like a case we had in Ireland recently, where some bakery refused to make a cake with a message that supported same-sex marriage because the owner didn't agree with the religious affiliation of the customer. Took them to court, bakery lost bigtime. ****s.

Pretty much. I was pretty surprised when I saw the diagram. And yes. There are diagrams of how to make sandwiches.

Okay, if you think a fast food restaurant uses too much of any condiment, then you just like light *x condiment*, cause we jip you on everything. Either because the company is cheap, or the person making the sandwich just doesn't care.

fiddler 09-01-2015 03:21 PM

Actually, she could face federal charges for refusing to up hold federal law. By refusing to issue a marriage license that the SCOTUS has ruled is legal, is a felony. As in jail time. It's not a contemptive court type deal. It's prison time I'm a federal prison type deal. People are falling to realize that she literally broke the law. It's the same as if she had stole money from the federal reserve. She broke the law. The "freedom of religion" argument is horse manure too, because that doesn't cover breaking the law. As a civil servant, you don't get to refuse to marry someone because of your religion.

And? You drunk too?

DwnWthVwls 09-02-2015 06:00 AM

All you people calling for prison are ridiculous. Complete overkill. We need to be putting less people in jail for this kind of crap. Ruining her career and a fine of some sort is enough.

RoxyRollah 09-02-2015 06:01 AM

I said demote her to janitor, jesus.^

DwnWthVwls 09-02-2015 06:14 AM

No, but Ireland doesn't have social security. We call it Social Welfare. For me, the initials SS only conjure up one thing...

I didn't say she deserved to go to prison. I said she could go to prison. Which is a possibility.

RoxyRollah 09-02-2015 09:28 AM

Excellent shed like to be a mytar

Chula Vista 09-02-2015 09:31 AM

Maybe, just maybe I'd be giving her a gram of slack if she'd born born and raised her entire life as a hard core person of faith. But.......

Davis was then an unlikely candidate to wage a moral war over the institution of marriage. At 44 years old, she had been divorced three times and had two children while she wasn’t married.

These are the ones I despise. Live a life of sin for 40 years and then all of a sudden 4 years ago you jump up on the bandwagon and start giving everyone else crap for how they choose to live their lives.

I'm going with option #3 from the OP now.
