Minister Jo Johnson quits over Brexit and calls for new vote

Do we have any Brexiteers on here, how do you feel about the Brexit thing right now?

OccultHawk 11-11-2018 03:17 PM

You should’ve cut yourself off 40 years ago but better late than never.

Yea. Moar Brexit.

News just in is that the 27 EU countries have accepted Theresa May's Brexit deal. This is a huge step forward after a year and a half of negotiations and a deadline that was a matter of months away. So like TM I'm feeling pretty relieved - especially as the only other option is the no-deal crash out which has always been described as "the worst possible scenario."

Next step is for the UK government to vote on accepting the deal themselves...

We have no Brexiteers contributing. :(

The Batlord 11-25-2018 10:52 AM

They all probably moved to Ireland and still don't have any internet access.

Cuthbert 11-26-2018 03:11 PM

Doesn't look like they'll vote for the deal Lisna.

Brexit :D

The Batlord 11-26-2018 03:17 PM

So Britain is just gonna straight up bottom out with the EU, middle fingers extended, and let the fish and chips fall where they may?

Lisnaholic 11-26-2018 07:12 PM

^ "...fish and chips...where they may..." Very droll!

I don't know the details, but some commentators are painting this deal as a good compromise, and I've noticed the following:-
i) 27 EU members have agreed to it, and are unlikely to be so unanimous again, so the EU's declaration that this is the only deal is prob no bluff.
ii) the deal seems to deliver several of the changes the Brexiteers wanted, on immigration, coastal waters, independence and no more payouts to the Brussels gravy train.
iii) On the beeb they said, "If the cabinet doesn't approve the deal, the pound will fall off a cliff."

So, although it doesn't sound popular, I rather hope the cabinet will accept the deal.

In a "provocative" statement, Trump has just said the EU deal would damage the prospects of a US-UK trade agreement, to which I hope May will reply, " Don't worry that - we'll be making a trade deal with your successor anyway."

I haven’t read much on this tbh, so what will happen if we don’t accept the deal? Will the EU offer us a better or worse one?
