I don’t think it would’ve been nearly so entrenched or brutal without religious justification. I’m also pretty sure you don’t know anything about it, no offense.

Religion has been an oppressive force for thousands of years and continues to be one to this day.

Everything in this post is either wrong or chicken****

1) **** “the left”
2) both rich and poor are religious idiots
3) believing your god is real is inherently bigoted against every other belief system
4) rally the right / we need to fight
5) most religions are all about getting converts which is a historical cornerstone to imperialism

Religion only gives false hope because the **** they base it on isn’t real.

I think it's important to separate religious institutions from individual religious people. About the latter I agree with Elph, but I think religious institutions are so intertwined with conservatism and enforcement of traditional power structures that I'd say they are harmful to humanity.
The only form of religion that I've read about that I didn't consider **** is the religious views Alice Walker talks about in The Color Purple

Outing myself as a hippie mf but there are a lot of great things to pull from Buddhism, just gloss over the reincarnation, karma, energy, etc business. You can even learn from those by putting them through a more secular lens. Or you can take acid and reach similar conclusions since even a religion that points so clearly towards nonviolence like Buddhism is used for tribal nonsense.

Some religions are clearly less toxic than others.
