Bingo. Well, half bingo. Not all business is created equal, and branding is a business of its own. So successfully branding yourself (note that this is not the same as positively branding yourself; think Kim Kardashian - getting people to talk about how much they hate you can be 90% of your brand awareness that you can use to leverage advertisers) is essentially successfully running a business, even if you are not successful with various business ventures over a few decades.

They are two different things. Some businesses may be plumbing businesses, but that doesn't mean business and plumbing are the same thing.

Nope. Plumbing is the service being provided, but without the business infrastructure around it then its just a hobby. Branding and business are so deeply intertwined with one another that even at the community level a business's success or failure almost always depends on branding / awareness.

A successful plumbing business probably does a lot of ___________.

A: businessing
B: carpentry
C: cocaine
D: plumbing

My point was that if branding is your business, being good at branding is being a good businessman given that your skills further the company. I often see how Trump's branding is brought up as if that makes him distinct from being a good businessman, and that's an incredibly shaky premise given that branding is his endgame.

Defining the premises of discussion allows discussions to go deeper than a disagreement.

Good luck having functioning corporate offices without plumbing.

There are many things that are deeply intertwined with business. It doesn't make them the same thing as business.

Branding isn't his endgame, lining his pockets is.
