Our farms are totally regulated and subsidized. Water is completely regulated by the government. Our military is entirely a socialist institution somewhat ironically for the right. Our entire government is obviously public sector. FCC governs communications. ATF. TSA. FAA. National and State Parks. Our highways. FDA. The FBI, CIA, NSA, all public sector socialist institutions. Everyone who works at the Pentagon. The IRS. The police. NASA. The Apollo missions. Pretty much every space endeavor by any country. Splitting the atom was a public works program. We actually out communisted the Soviets to win the Cold War. Banks and auto industries bailed out by socialist policy. Subways. Busses. School. |

Capitalism would honestly be perfect here in the U.S. if green energy and other, more sustainable industries based around newer advances in biotech continue to gain ground and cost effectiveness. But those technologies would have never emerged in the U.S. if we were something other than a capitalist society. Many of the things you cite above in regards to government innovation here in the U.S. are based on what I'm talking about. Real innovation these days is done between universities, private investment and ingenuity birthed from people working together outside the red tape of bureaucracy. What's socialist about the military? Is it not quite the opposite, when we consider its tasks like union breaking, strikebusting, and quelling protests and riots, thus upholding and strenghtening the capitalist system? What does it even mean to "out [communist] the Soviets"? Lots of research institutions in Norway are publicly owned. Is Norway a communist country?
