dog·ma
/ˈdôɡmə/
noun
a principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true.

You can absolutely be dogmatic about science.

There is no science or math here, its a philosophical concept that should be discussed with an agreed upon usage prior to debate.

But options are magic and brains aren't magic. Stop being intellectually dishonest and just agree with me already.

Everything runs on math. If you don't think your brain is bound by equations the same as everything else then you're talking about the supernatural by definition. You might as well say "but wutaboot souls?"

If you don't know I'm talking about incompatibalism then you haven't been paying attention. Frown and I have had this discussion several times before so we know what the other is talking about.

Math is a tool that we use to explain the world. It's in a pretty sweet spot but historically it's been shown to be imperfect.

Which equations are these?

Also, thinking that "we" are separate from our brains is basically an argument for the existence of souls. It's more like "what about sentience and bodily control?".

That would be relevant if I said that current mathematical models could predict human "choice". Our ability to predict human action has no bearing on this discussion because our failure to understand absolutely every mathematical equation does not disprove math itself.

Stop being dense. I feel like I'm talking to elphenor.

When did I say we are separate from our brains? My whole point is that we are not and since our brains are bound by math then we are bound by math. The only way you can be misinterpreting my arguments is if you are so bound by emotion that you need to strawman me in order to protect your fragile sense of self.

Frownland 04-11-2019 05:25 PM

If I'm being dense it should be easy to explain. What math are you referring to?
