For once there's some good news from drought-stricken California, and if you don't particularly feel like reading the article, it also has a bunch of Before/After comparison photos which some geography nerds enjoy so much

So because of the explosion and the controlled burn from East Palestine Ohio, There is a strange smell that people are reporting from my area to the DEC. This is going to have long lasting effects on Ohio itself and nearby areas. The DEC is saying that the source of the smell is coming from our area though and it's not related but I'm not so sure about that.

Agreed I also forgot to mention that my area is like a 6 hour drive east of where that explosion occurred.

Rather than clean up the toxic wreck voluntarily, as it has done so far, Norfolk Southern will be required to do so under a plan approved by the EPA, which will also take over certain aspects of the response from Ohio. Norfolk Southern will also have to pay the remediation costs — as well as pay for cleaning services that the agency will offer to residents and businesses, participate in public meetings and share information publicly, according to the EPA.
