I will take your suggestion into consideration.

There was no discussion. It was people flaming each other about how they debate. I could just have the thread locked if everyone thinks its a bad idea to have a single thread that doesnt result in flaming one another when the topics result in conflicting opinions.

So, Dwn...next topic?

Any political issue you want. So...next topic? What are you passionate about that could use a fair discussion?

No-fault divorce laws. I think one should have to prove fault instead of being carte blanche to just run out and ruin people's lives.

So would you also be okay with wiping any tax or credit benefits for the married? How about just applying fault to those with joint accounts?

I conditionally agree though. I say conditionally because I'm not too well versed in how divorce affects people outside of credit and mortgage **** that I deal with at my job.

I don't know, Frown, about the financial side. I wasn't even thinking about that (guess I should, for the sake of the discussion!).

It set a bad precedent when the OP started off being just that and listing off names of people that you feel shouldn't be in this thread so of course it will devolve into that.

Proving fault is currently a mess and that is why the divorce situation is in the exact position it is now.

It started as a joke thread as a response to your Trump thread being locked yet again because of the 3 people mentioned in the OP. After that Bat and Grindy commented, so I decided to actually try and make it a place for people to have constructive conversations free of the characteristics of the Trump thread.

@Frown - I'm at work now, but two topics that I think would be interesting to discuss:

(1) the other thread I made that no one seemed interested in, discussing statistical disparities and isms.

(2) Matt Dillahunty's argument for pro-choice.

This divorce topic is cool though so let's keep that moving.

This is all anecdotal, but I've heard a seemingly endless number of stories about one partner just saying fuck it and leaving. Hell, my mom did it! And the system is broken af, awarding bad behavior with alimony and child support. My mom got child support even though she was the one who cheated on and then abandoned my dad--and she ended up with a higher-paying job!
