They'd be just as taxing in audio form, arguably more so if you account for having to adjust to someone else's reading and speaking speed.

Translation: you don't have the attention span to listen to audio books cause you're easily distracted by shiny things.

I don’t totally disregard audio books but this is 90% correct

no it's not

Books only exist cause people were too primitive to invent audiobooks

Humans are naturally designed to absorb info more through listening than reading, since conversation is a basic human trait

Reading is more effective if you have the time and will power to sit down and strictly devote your attention to the book

But audiobooks are more effective in that you can multitask while listening, which frees up a lot more time to listen. You might have to listen to a single chapter multiple times depending on the book but you still ultimately get the same amount of content.

You "like" books so much that you complain about how arduous a task is for you to finish discipline and punish. You like the idea of reading books. You like displaying them on your bookshelf.

Do you talk back to your audiobooks? Do they respond to you? If not then you're not holding a conversation, you're being lectured, which is really not a great way to retain information. For someone who claims that working class hero mythology is bull**** you sure do try hard to **** on things associated with intellectualism with yourself as a working class hero alternative.

... listening is part of a conversation. That doesn't mean you have to be having an actual conversation to absorb info via listening.

Reading only introduces an extra step since you have to convert the characters on the page to the words you understand which are already represented in your brain as sounds.

I'm not saying reading is useless but to put it on a pedestal like it's the only pure form of absorbing information is just self congratulatory elitist bull****.

And audiobooks vs reading has nothing to do with the working class.. who largely don't do either.

My dick being pleasured is part of sex. I'm a ****ing sex machine who's gotten laid twice today (and not ten minutes ago I might add).

Without the engagement of a mutual conversation the mind wanders as you are talked at without having any immediate social reason to retain information you might currently have to respond to.

Depending on your mood, level of energy, general preference, or whatever it could be easier to retain information either way, but the aesthetics of reading are simply different to listening to an audiobook in more ways than the mechanical absorption of information. That's why book are ****ing art. Even non-fiction books are bound by the same nebulous aesthetic "rules" of reading.

Elitism is just naturally associated with greater wealth and privilege. Practicality is naturally associated with being more salt-of-the-earth. Don't be a ****ing moron and pretend you don't understand this.

yea that happens. That's why some times you have to relisten to a chapter. I find this also happens with books for me, if I get distracted. Difference being to read a book i have to stare at it so that doesn't leave much room for multitasking.

Maybe you're not capable of absorbing a chapter through audio but I am. I just have to sometimes listen more than once. But i always can tell whether I'm following the book or not.

actually I anticipated you were going to seize on that word to try to make your point after I typed it, predictable as you are

But no I mean elitist more in terms of music board use... The kind of people who regard their taste in art as some sort of accomplishment. That goes back to Elph's logic... Audiobooks are too easy and reading is more mentally taxing... Hence the audio version diminishes his accomplishment in having consumed a book.

But consuming not an accomplishment. Only producing is.

Why would you want to multitask while reading a book? You only read non-fiction don't you?

Yeah I'm still right. Taste in art is associated with wealth and privilege and education. It's a flex to show you're not some mouthbreathing farmer. And showing that you're practical and serious minded and not about all that wasteful snobbery is how the farmers flex on the effete intellectuals. Elph wants to be the Bohemian snob elevated above his lessers and you want to be the working class snob tearing down your betters.
