And for FDR... Not only did he introduce American socialism but he also rightly recognized that the Nazis couldn't be ignored. We were very inclined to do so because of ww1. That would've been a big mistake.

He did start our involvement in Vietnam. Not really in the spirit of peace.

Yeh won't argue that.

But avoiding the big war is a very underrated achievement. Cause people don't tend to notice things you don't do. But we were very close to all out war with Russia and a different president would've made the difference.

Was he responsible for putting nukes in... was it Turkey (maybe?) that pissed off the Soviets to get them to put nukes in Cuba? If it was then no peace prize.

I mean probably but the escalation of tensions didn't start there either. Things were proggresively heating between both sides for some time.

I think enabling the continuation of an arms race that could literally annihilate everything but the cockroaches and maybe even the cockroaches isn't very peaceful.

Of course no ****ing peace prize. Yes he did that. And it’s none of our business what sort of defense Cuba has or accepts. Unless we consider them less human than we are there’s no moral justification for objecting to nuclear proliferation while we have always had the largest nuclear arsenal in the world and have proven to be the only country with the cowardice and moral emptiness to actually use them - on civilian targets even.
