What is the distinction you mean? When I say socialist I generally mean social democrat

I think she's self identified as a democratic socialist, similar to Sanders - at the very least, she's part of the Democratic Socialists of America

Socialism would abolish capitalism with a form of government that aims to get rid of class and private industry while a social Democrat wants socialized programs in a capitalist society.

It's basically let's try to make capitalism fair rather than let's get rid of capitalism because it's unfair. Regardless they are in our best interest over anybody else we have.

I learned, and it may be wrong, that socialism is an umbrella term that covers tons of different ideologies like anarchism and communism and state socialism and etc.

oh I learned the same but I'm lazy so I just use the word 'socialism' in a sloppy way
It's confusing though, like I think I learned that socialism is basically Marxism without the revolutionary aspect (favouring a democratic approach), otherwise it's communism, but all these words get mixed

I'm American and we typically don't know these things. Even college educated folk.

Edit: and when I asked Elph and OH the difference between socialism and communism waaayyy back they gave me **** answers. Probably because they are American.
