The OP is referring to pronoun use, so both and neither, really. You can't tell just by looking at someone what kind of genitals they have, would you require knowing that someone has ambiguous genitalia to use their preferred pronoun?

Seriously? Gender is different from sex in the sense that it's a mental thing instead of physcial. This is why people say gender instead of sex in these discussions. Also have you never met a person who was androgynous without trying? If you confuse their gender and they correct you, what is your basis for dismissing that afterwards? First there is no androgynous without trying, that's usually due to fashion sense. The mins is not separate the body, there are distinguishable differences in the brain activity of men v. women so yes gender in the "mind" or whatever does correlate heavily to what we know as biologically sex. The exception to the rule to the rule is not the rule.
