I had a smart and really rebellious black kid in class who made that point really eloquently. Think about how badass that is. I ****ing loved that kid. He was one of the rare kids that listened when I spoke about power dynamics and income disparity. He was very interested in how rich people rig the game.

But that's more for one person or a group of people - hostages, Patty Hearst, that kind of thing. Elph is talking - so far as I can see - about a whole population of slaves, although maybe I got that wrong. He can confirm. Stockholm Syndrome was never gonna make cotton picking on the plantation seem like a good idea, or the gas showers as an ok way to go.

You got it wrong. People cooperating with their oppression through complacency is not the same as a group homogeneously diving into mass graves.

With slavery you have to keep in mind how much of their identity is wrapped up in being a slave. Hopefully, a person could see their worth as a human outside of their role in the institution of slavery but imagine a person born into bondage, never educated, no hint at another existence at all. To a person of a certain psychological disposition to say they didn’t like being a slave was tantamount to the untenable position that they didn’t want to exist at all. Furthermore, although incorrect it would be easy to see opposition to slavery as opposition to everything she is. So her coping mechanism might seem unimaginable until you dig deeper into how it was formed.

In parts of Alabama, for example, after the importing of slaves was banned, it was illegal for any free black person to even visit. It’s very easy to imagine how someone who never knew anything else even existed would come to that conclusion.

They were definitely taught freedom equaled death.

I dont disagree with any of this but to quote Frown "false equivalency" comparing modern black people to their slave ancestors. Elph is just stubborn and silly.

All you have to do to prove me wrong is show some evidence that white people as a whole are working together to oppress all other races and my mind is changed, but ofc you cant because its a bull**** position. You completely ignore the nuance and multitude of factors that go into it. Stay woke Elph, id never ask you to change.

Maybe there are a few weird civilizations in history but the human race takes as much advantage of who and what they can take advantage of as they can get away with. White people are as garbage as black people are.
