JWB signs up every now and then. Actually both of them have posted since the bans so point a) I would say yes and as for the second two questions JWB was hardly abusive or a c*nt so not sure what he'd have to change tbh. What was he banned for TH?

Absolutely not. You mean like sockpuppets? That should only happen if permission is given, or the old account can be activated, I don't care. But nobody should be able to "cleverly" circumvent the rules, is the point.

The problem with JWB, and I do like the guy, is that he continually pushes the mods' buttons (nearly wrote "bottoms" there! That could have been interesting! ) by posting sockpuppet accounts, knowing he's banned. I think originally he was banned for something to do with racial slurs? Jews maybe? I don't know. Maybe he got at someone personally. I really can't remember and I don't actually know, but he always seemed to be riding the edges, metaphorically dropping his pants and sticking his arse out the window and giving the cops (our mods) the finger, saying "Go on, arrest me, I dare ya!" so it wasn't a surprise.

I'll be interested to see what Ori says to my last post, if he replies. WHY should these people be let back in? What have they done to deserve it, and why now? Have any of them agreed to change/behave/obey the rules? In my opinion, it's not enough to say they've been banned long enough and there's no other reason. Do you let a mass murderer out of jail just because you think he's learned his lesson? Yeah, that's right: I compared them to mass murderers. Of the forum, sure.

I'm not suggesting sockpuppets.

You said there has to be a line somewhere or there is no point (meaning the ban has to be permanent). Well the permaban would still stand but they'd be free to post on a new account, so they've lost their original account and have to start again from 0. What's the problem?

It would be easier to let them post again just to stop these discussions, then the mods can just pull the plug on them if they act up. Win win for the mods.

You're acting like giving a few members one last chance would ruin everything, when realistically only one of two things would happen; they'd either prove that they've learned their lesson, and contribute to the community, or they'd lapse and be effortlessly and painleasly banned.

Well wouldn't that make them a sock puppet anyway?

Well, not really. If there were antagonistic towards other members, it could kill the morale here. That would be especially troublesome given Exo's recent edict.

TH used it as if it would be being used to avoid a ban, not with the OK of the mods. Not sure why you would refer to a new account as a 'sock puppet' if it was meant in any other way.

If the mods would let a permabanned member back, why would he have to have a new account?

I already explained, they don't, but some people think permanent bans should be permanent. So the permanent ban would still stand, just on the original account.

I don't care what account they post on.

We can argue back and forth like this forever, and I'm sure you're getting, and I'm giving, entertainment in so doing, but I've terrible stories to write, so I'm going to leave you now. Also, there's footie on the telly. It's only Serbia v Switzerland, but hey, it's something.

What this comes down to is this: you want Sansa and JWB back. I don't. The mods, however, will decide. So what you, me, or anyone else who isn't a mod wants is beside the point. I've made my position clear, but I'm sure it will have no bearing on what, if any, decision is come to here. Neither you nor I can influence the mods in what they do, and whether I like their decision, whatever it may be, or not, I'll have to abide by it.

So que sera sera.

Well done on a pretty good troll thread in the end. I'm outta here now. See you in the funny papers!

GOAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLACHHHO!

Seriously? I mean, seriously? If someone changes their name, does that change the person? Really? What difference would posting under a new account make, unless the person was prepared to change? I don't get it. It's not like everything you are goes with your original name. If I changed my name and posted under a new account I'd still be a boring, pontificating Irish ****.

How is that a win/win? Mods now have, under this scheme, to watch carefully everything these "reinstated" members do. And what happens when they cause trouble again, if they do? Are they allowed warnings, temp bans like us all? Or the first time they step out of line, are they shot out of a cannon into the sun and perma-perma-perma-we-really-mean-it-this-time-permabanned again? And would any change of behaviour, if it occurred, have more to do with a fear of being banned again than someone actually wanting to change? Back to prisoners: is a guy out on parole going to behave because he wants to be a better person, or because he knows if he ****s up that he's going back inside?

Like I say, and believe what you want, this isn't about Sansa. I ****ing hate her and always will, but that's my business. But Ori is trying to set a precedent here for the future, so that anyone who gets permabanned from now on will know that, ah, it's not really permanent. I can make my case and they'll let me back in. Permabans, as I already said, aren't handed out lightly. You have to do a LOT for the mods to make that final move. And it should be final. You've had enough chances, and wasted them all, so, you know, **** you, is what I say.

I'd also like to point out that so far as I remember, the Batty permaban was all a big troll that Plankton was running, was it not? So he was never really banned, making that a bad example to use here.

It's a different account not a name change. The permanent ban still applies to the original account.

Cos this has been brought up before several times and allowing them to post would put an end to it.
