Hey, meanwhile I'll be the internet space nerd. I looked it up: indeed, if the universe's curvature is positive, you end up where you started, but current measurements seem to indicate that it's actually flat

Relative to the extents of the universe? I know its expanding but it's believed to still have an outer limit, no?

If you put a bunch of **** in a balloon and inflate it all the objects inside have some xyz position relative to the centroid of the expanding object.

True, but as long as we haven't found any border of our universe we can't define a center so we don't know
funny related thing: the universe expands uniformly, in such a way that you can choose any point (for instance the earth) to be the center of the expansion.
For all physically relevant purposes it doesn't really matter what the earth's location with respect to the extents of the universe is

Thanks. I wasnt sure if there was some weird space physics that could actually help us figure out our orientation similar to how gravity and pressure can help us navigate to the surface in water.

I'm pretty sure Earth and space have the same physics but I guess you already think that math does what it wants.
