A federal judge issued a scathing order Saturday dismissing the Trump campaign’s futile effort to block the certification of votes in Pennsylvania, shooting down claims of widespread irregularities with mail-in ballots.

Quote:

Giuliani and a Trump campaign lawyer said in a statement that they welcomed the dismissal because it would allow them to appeal up to the U.S. Supreme Court faster, where Trump has repeatedly said he feels he has sympathetic justices
This article paints it like a huge loss for Trump... I’m telling you, if you trust our Supreme Court you’re out of your goddamn mind.

Yeah I know man. I feel for you guys, I really do. I'm following it on CNN since before the election. Almost a soap opera here, but I know you people are living with it, and I assume in fear and dread, and I can't even think what it must be like. I keep hoping he'll just drop dead. No such luck.

I think even the SCOTUS has to operate on the basis of evidence though, doesn't it? And there's about as much evidence as there are quiet reflective guitar passages on a Merzbow record. Yeah I said it Batty: wanna fight? ;)

If they go to the SCOTUS I think they'll just be laughed out of it. Remember, even though an Obama appointee, the judge who threw out the PA case is a lifelong Republican. Even they can't fashion a case for Trump out of anger and fairy dust...

Hey hey hey! Trumped-up charges! :D Surely someone has used this already? If not, I claim copyright.

They ain’t has to do ****. That’s a norm. The law is whatever they say it is.

Actually they can. They don’t have to be just or follow precedent or follow any sort of norm at all. It’s 100% up to them how they rule. They can wipe their ass with the evidence. They don’t have overseers. They are the overseers.

America is post-truth, post-normal - no system works without decency, norms, and sanity.

Trump has had three appointees. Three.

I'm a little more optimistic than you, OH, especially as I see more and more judges throwing out Trump's legal challenges. I don't exactly trust the Supreme Court, but I think, as part of the judiciary, they are going to side with the lower-court opinions and the weight of evidence -or rather the lack of evidence - that the election result should stand as it is.
As I've argued before, once appointed, a Supreme Court judge doesn't have to do what their sponsor wants; they've got the lifetime appointment, so they can make decisions with an eye on legal issues and their historical legacy, not just partisan loyalties. I think they'll be too scared to go against so much evidence and precedent suggesting the Biden win is valid.

A case in point: Remember how we were worried that one week after the election, Nov 10, the Supreme Court was going to dismantle the Affordable Care Act: that never happened did it ? For whatever reason, perhaps fear of backlash from the public, SCOTUS didn't go along with the Republicans agenda.

None the less, these are certainly nail-biting days, as we see the various Republican machinations flounder, only to be replaced by some new scam they have dreamed up.

To me, the villain of the hour is this previously obscure woman at the GSA, Emily Murphy, who has yet to sign off on Biden as the apparent winner of the election. I read that she is a principalled and consciencious soul, put in a difficult position. She has to choose: either (i) placate her lame-duck boss, delay the transition process and jeopadize the lives of thousands of Americans, or (ii) do the right thing by rubber-stamping the clear Biden victory. What a dilemma for the poor woman!!

EDIT: tldr? My post is what Trollheart said in half as many words.

I read it.

What you might not get is this court has six Catholics.

I’m going to go full non-nuance because I don’t need any here. Calling yourself a catholic at this point is an open endorsement of of pedophilia.

That’s not the point. That’s just to point out how sick they are as human beings.

The point is abortion. They gotta get these babies born or who else are their clergy going to ****. They will do ANYTHING to overturn Roe. The possibility of Dems stacking the court and saving Roe is untenable to those weird perverts. They’re obsessed with it.

And they are 100% a political branch of the evangelical right.

And still that’s just one of Trump’s avenues.

We do not subscribe to the view that Herr Hitler and his friends, now finally in possession of the power they have desired for so long, will enact the proposals circulating in the Angriff or the Völkischer Beobachter newspapers; they will not suddenly divest German Jews of their constitutional rights, lock them away in race ghettos, or subject them to the avaricious and murderous impulses of the mob. They not only cannot do this because many other crucial factors hold their powers in check, ranging from the Reich president to some of the political parties affiliated with them, but they also clearly do not want to go this route, for when one acts as a European world power, the whole atmosphere is more conducive to ethical reflection upon one’s better self than to revisiting one’s earlier oppositional role: operating as a European world power means that one seeks an enduring place in the harmonious exchange of peoples of culture. And beyond that, it is clear that the powers at Wilhelmstrasse no longer see demagogic appeals designed to heat up mass gatherings of the Volk as strictly necessary. The new Prussian Minister of the Interior [Hermann Göring] can perform a far greater service to the old comrades in arms and party friends by rejuvenating the huge, state civil service along National Socialist lines than by making open concessions to the brutal manifestations of hatred of Jews.

This isn't over until Donald Trump is dead.

See I know you don't think you need nuance, but you conveniently always never need nuance, almost as if all you want are simple issues you can get mad at like a Rush Limbaugh listener.

I think it’s convenient how nuance is always used to water **** down.
