As for being over, it isn't over until we know how the balance of power in the Senate works out. As Obama discovered, that's what decides what you can achieve or not achieve.

Agreed!

Congratulations to the U.S.!!

Thank you for choosing not to be such a giant douchebag anymore. The rest of the world is very grateful.

Hopefully Biden will work to reverse some of the damage that orange asshole has done.

No offense but it's amazing how quickly you went from being completely black pilled to the new hope pilled OH. And over what? Biden being declared the winner? That was a fairly predictable result, especially the last few days.

Not that I wanna discourage optimism but maybe temper your expectations a bit or else risk being black pilled yet again

Biden is better than Trump. That's true. This was a very modest and marginal victory. That's also true.

I mean I'm all for cutting Trump's head off but America has been a colonial/imperial oppressor and murderer for well over 100 years at this point and is no less of one without Trump so congratulating us on not being giant douchebags anymore is ludicrous. We haven't walked back a single thing we did under Bush Jr. that made us a country of imperialist war criminals and I'm pretty sure we won't now.

jwb 11-07-2020 07:23 PM

Before America it was the Europeans. Now they're "above" imperialism as soon as it's no longer in their grasps. How convenient.

Man when you haven’t eaten in 4 years crumbs taste like steak

Plus goddamn man I want to feel good

And Harris had a great smile on that stage

I’ll probably fall back into my hateful ways but not today

Ridin With Biden!!!

jwb 11-07-2020 07:34 PM

I'm not encouraging you to fall back into black pill

That was just as illogical as baseless optimism

I'm just saying manage your expectations. Learn to be content with a marginal victory instead of convincing yourself it's something else.

OccultHawk 11-07-2020 07:36 PM

Trump lost

That’s a ****ing mountain of joy right there

jwb 11-07-2020 07:43 PM

Alright I guess

I pretty much knew he was going to lose so maybe that's what dulled the effect

OccultHawk 11-07-2020 07:46 PM

I’m gonna be even happier when Joe’s actually sworn in and Trump’s sorry ass is gone.

I’m not going to cheat myself out of that moment with cynicism.

I agree with you. The U.S. will continue to be a giant douchebag, as is the tradition, just not quite so toxic (and orange).

TheBig3 11-07-2020 08:11 PM

One of the things I'm interested to see is how the parties will pivot from this.

The Democratic Party hasn't controlled the White House since the Bernie revolution, and in 2018, Bernie was a dominant figure. Assuming the Progressive Left doesn't hemorrhage Congressional members, it might make for a logical shift in how foreign intervention is carried out.

Also, I think there's going to be a lot of Congress taking back power, and a wind-down of Executive power creep. 70-something days until the transfer. We'll see.

Bull ****ing god damn **** to all of that cause the Chamber of Commerce switched to the Democratic party so it's just gonna be more Wallstreet dick sucking to keep all that Chamber money.

This I guess, is one element of labelling a country a giant douche-bag, but there are plenty of others. In the last 4 years the US opted out of the Paris Accord and the WHO, they implemented a policy of turning kids into orphans, they elected Trump, they turned the US into one of the most covid-toxic places on the planet, etc, etc.

Those are all douchebag things to do imo, and I hope that starting in January, some of that may be undone. In the meantime I think adidasss is right: 74 million US citizens have said they don't want to be douchebags anymore.

I know to follow the money rather than trusting old guys with money to do the right thing. If the Democratic Party is getting Chamber of Commerce money now then the people they're lobbying for (big business) are probably going to get the better end of the stick.

We were an oppressor lording over the 3rd world with aircraft carriers and unfair trade relations for a hundred years before Trump took office. Why don't you ask the Philippines if they think we'll all of a sudden turn out to be good people seeing as they were the first people to see how we dealt with international power and influence and then spent half a century being massacred by us.

jwb 11-07-2020 08:35 PM

I mean that's the way the world has always been.

Europeans only discovered they were against imperialism once they lost their empires. Coincidence, I'm sure.

Stupidity obviously. The idea of the legislature taking back power when they're already comfortable letting the judiciary handle their lawmaking responsibility so they can scare people into voting for them over judicial appointments is pretty dumb.

jwb 11-07-2020 08:46 PM

He will probably continue the Obama era legacy in that regard.

Which was hardly lax on executive action

And it's a mistake to think it's wise to try to rewind the clocks and restore congressional power

Congress is increasingly defunct and deferring power to the executive and judicial branches

That's not gonna change

**** the system. **** the 3 branches. **** democracy.

Pack the courts and sign executive orders. Power is all that matters.

Well, there was a take-back of power after Watergate. There's a lot of things Trump did because it wasn't illegal that we all thought it was an accepted norm. The pardons, the kids serving as whatever job they had. Things like that.

Wall Street donated to Obama and he still passed regulation against them. I know you want Glorius Revolution, but a few of us out here have something to lose. So we're not going to vote for it.

the president is the de facto head of party though, that's the reason why the executive is so powerful

I was listening to something earlier that said the muslim ban, and the detention centers were going out immediately. I thought there was something else but I don't recall.

I was trying to help you come to the conclusion that a lull in executive expansion before the decades-long snowballing of overreach that brought us to where we are today isn't the best evidence that we'll be seeing any meaningful limiting of the executive any time soon.

Oh thank you so much for assuring me that money in politics doesn't matter cause votes give the people the real power. Man, those rich jerks in the Chamber of Commerce must really be desperate and pissing themselves. I feel so much better now you stupid ****ing ****.

Anteater 11-07-2020 09:10 PM

Biden is clearly going to follow Trump's lead and expand executive power beyond what we've seen to date. He'd be a fool not to.

I assumed that's what you were saying, but it's apples and oranges. The violations of the Trump era weren't exactly the same issues in the Nixon Administration. Saying "it happened again" isn't being honest.

You know, when I came back here I was like "Why do all these conversations end with everyone trying to low-energy troll each other?" and I realized it's because there's no reason to have a conversation with these people. So, hell, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Anyone who makes over $90k is both a pedophile and a war criminal, and if we were any kind of real democracy we'd flog them on YouTube. We're going to run out of potable water unless Biden implements Medicare4All, and the Supreme Court should be abolished in lieu of a sort of American Idol style public opinion poll. Open Borders is a neoliberal shill policy put forth by oligarchs. We should subsidize plane rides into america. A class system will be formalized not by money, but by how sustainable your diet is.

And any candidate that doesn't support this is a fascist.

Yes, I'm a bad-faith actor. Because you always post serious, thoughtful direct answers to questions. All I've ever seen from you is either a dodge or an answer so MB-approved it might as well be an observation.
