So we had a presidential candidate that ran the most racist campaign in our lifetimes and then we had the exact data of the racial makeup and every demographic of who voted for who and you went through a period where you doubted it was an expression of racism?

Tbh the economic insecurity and racism are not mutually exclusive.

Very often economic insecurity leads to more racism / us vs them / dey took our jerbs type thinking

you can't really paint with a broad brush for any of this ****. Some are racists and some were bamboozled by the used car salesman tactics while not caring that much about the racial angle. And even more had both going on at once.

You try to rationalize their thinking but the truth is a good bulk of the population just aren't thinking about it that much and sorta just glom on to whatever everyone else is doing/saying.

racism and sexism contributed but there was a question as to whether the failures of neolibearals to deliver on their promises caused Trump

now I'm not so sure that's even the case, it's just that the country has a lot of racist hicks and the electoral college system is stupid

If you think that fascism's rise in America is just about racism then you might as well say that Islamist extremism rising in the middle east is just due to religion.
